Berri: Oil and Litani Projects to Be Source of Pride for Miqati’s Cabinet

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Speaker Nabih Berri said Tuesday that an approval of the decrees on the implementation of the oil exploration law will be the culmination of the government’s achievements.

In remarks to An Nahar daily, Berri said that the approval expected to be made by the cabinet on Wednesday will be “a vital achievement and the energy ministry will implement its mission … to open the door for (the operations of oil exploration) companies.”

He also said that the Litani river’s irrigation and hydroelectric project will be implemented soon.

Those two projects will be a source of pride for Premier Najib Miqati’s government after consecutive cabinets since 1943 failed to implement them, he said.

“They will make a development and economic renaissance,” Berri told An Nahar.

Energy Minister Jebran Bassil also told As Safir daily that oil exploration should be prioritized. “I don’t see any justification for the delay” in approving the decrees, he said.

He expected the government to immediately approve them during Wednesday’s session, but stressed that this would be “just the beginning.”

He said the government should next issue licenses to oil exploration companies early this year.

while you can't take him seriously when he's talking about "economic renaissance”, it is a fact that during harriri's goverment nothing was done on the matter of oil and gas exploration.

at least this goverment, whatever the motives are, is doing that.

Lebanese are paying the heavy price with the no power plan for the country, this proves the failure of this government to meet the real need of Lebanese people especially the electricity. Aoun and Hezbollah culture of corruption is the real threat to the Lebanese national security, shame that Lebanon has no power today.

the filthy zionist information war department is blaming aoun and hezb'allah for lack of electricity.

we lebanese know it's a decades old problem (which was not solved during siniora and harriri goverment). only the zionists can say blame hezb'allah for that

Jabal Amel, please go to tayyar website or hizb al moqawama al irania website to blog. This place is not for you here.

People like you as said by Jebran Baisl steal 88% of electricity and they complain and shut down roads, etc... and never stop complaining while not willing to pay for anything. Sanyora, hariri, and Jaajaa ashraf minak wa min hasankon who is hiding behind his black turben and using religion for political gains while the grand thief of the parliament continues to rob all our ministries quietly.

the filthy zionist information war department would like to order me where to write my comments. they forget that they can order only their domestic puppets what and where to write, and they forget they can't make orders to lebanese.

also, one of them is really concerned about the image of me and "my" party, although he has no idea what party is that.

the oil plan was ready and was in the parliament since 69 , suddenly the whole file dissapeared , in the nineties
can we know why our so called leaders did not even try to talk about the oil plan
why having 60 billion debts with their interest every year , and all this money we can get with only one oil concession ?

Thumb shab 03 January 2012, 17:37

Militia leader or not, he's Lebanese and wears a tie unlike the other fat rat

Missing peace 03 January 2012, 19:01

yes true, the oil plan has been studied in the sixties and now they boast like they invented it!
and as far as irrigation in the south is concerned, the plan is also an old one! at the beginning of the irrigation plan the problems of implementing it came from disputes between shias in the south ,on who should get the water!so berry shouldn t be so proud of himself.... :)

for the record. Rafic Hariri peace upon him has rebuilt the electricity grid several time and we almost got rid of generators back in the nineties. But people forget. The Israelis bombed it several time while he kept rebuilding it. Instead of only blaming the prime minister wy do not you guys realize that Hariri had no more than 2 or 3 ministers of his choice and the rest were dictated by Syria and their shiite allies. Whybdo not any one question the head of parliament and representatives at that timenwho is supposed to do checks and balances. After all a prime minister has no balls based in our taefi system. But he is always the only person to blame. Berri continues to rob daman al ishtimaei and iskan today quietly and also controls port and airport and is maing lots of money. Good for him. And no question will ever be asked because people who nag and complain are his supporters or allies

I think berri wants to go after oil revenues now. He wants the bigger fish indeed.

Default-user-icon Randolph (Guest) 04 January 2012, 02:14

It was bombed repeatedly in 1993, 1996 and may 1998 if not. May be you were in kindergarten at that time and do not recall. Of course electricity grid could not Handle those cities villages and dawahi that steal electricity. I hope not to defend Hariri here but itis the Lebanese irony of only targeting the prime minister post always and forgetting that he has no balls. He can not choose his ministers, fire them or even slap them. Yes no one has the power to take leadership. Concerning oun. He wants everything to himself and I hope they give him everything to give the guy the perfect chance to make it extreme chaos ta y7il 3anna. Ma hada byefhaam gairo. I do not think this guy has ever agreed with anyone. He belongs with Angels. Inshalla soon.

"plans to renovate and upgrade it are being blocked by the M14 majority in parliament,"

the question you should ask yourself is why is it being blocked.... think a little if you can!

"as for berri, we all agree he's a handicap on the FPM and he's overtly on bad terms with FPM especially after aoun defeated him in jezzine. the enemy of your enemy should be your friend, RIGHT :P ? you should LOVE berri. after all, he's a mafioso like most of the M14 'elite'..."
