Association of Banks Grants Higher Relief Council $32 Million after Transfer of Funds to STL
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةThe Association of Banks in Lebanon announced on Thursday that it has granted the Higher Relief Council $32 million after the transfer of funds to the Special Tribunal for Lebanon were made through the council.
It said in a statement that it made this decision out of “its conviction to fortify the internal political stability.”
“This stability is important for maintaining the necessary financial conditions that encourage investments, which is at the core of social stability and economic prosperity,” it stressed.
The announcement is the first official confirmation that the funding was made through the HRC after media reports had said that the money came from the budget of the prime minister’s office.
Prime Minister Najib Miqati announced on November 30 that he had transferred Lebanon’s share of the tribunal funding but he did not elaborate on the mechanism he employed.
But the premier's move did not spell the end of a feud over the court, said Joseph Torbey, head of the banking association.
"Funding the court has been and will continue to be a key source of political controversy," he told Agence France Presse.
He added that by covering this year's dues, the banking association had closed debate on the issue.
"The damage caused by this issue was harmful and was a constant source of tension," he said. "Closing this chapter is good for the country's economy."
and now the cabinet has to approve the grant, thus making hizbushaitan and aoun approve ooficially the STL :)
To the M18 followers, wake up before it’s too late...didn't you learn ANYTHING from the brutal Syrian and Israeli occupations of Lebanon? Stop supporting armed militias and injustice just because you blindly follow your leaders or just from old grievances and out of revenge....think about our country first. there is no country without justice and freedom...
mowaten, I agree with you a 100% that our enemy the Israelis have their greedy eyes on our land and natural resources and I also agree that we need to defend our country and what's ours but we are disagreeing on the methods that's all. Yes Hizb has and proved that he can fight Israel and is a deterrent but it is wrong to be the stronger then our national army and it is wrong to dictate internal/external Lebanese policies. Hizb is influenced if not controlled by Iran and Hizb simply controls the government and that's what I strongly reject. Hizb threatens our State.
By the way what anything about the Syrian occupation!!!???
the same scare tactics: palestinians, salafis, ...
please change your ways as it does not work anymore.
the banks paid and hizbushaitan and FPM minister will approve the STL to accept these funds :)
whether you want to accept it or not, this is happening :)
