Contacts between Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat and the parliamentary majority have not been severed, stated a source from the majority to al-Joumhouriya newspaper in remarks published on Saturday.

It added however that contact between the Druze leader and Damascus has been severed for the time being.

Furthermore, it stressed that the positions of some National Struggle Front ministers and MPs “don’t necessarily reflect those of Jumblat.”

It revealed that the MP is currently focusing on the ongoing regional and international developments and ways to fortify the Lebanese internal scene against them.

Ministerial sources told the newspaper that the MP will not withdraw his ministers from the government or leave the parliamentary majority.

“It’s true that his position on Syria does not coincide with the rest of the majority, but he has not changed his stand on the resistance or the majority,” they noted.

In addition, sources closed to Jumblat said that the PSP leader supports keeping Najib Miqati as prime minister and for providing the appropriate conditions for keeping him in his role “due to a lack of alternatives at the moment.”

They voiced his fears of security repercussions taking place in Lebanon because of the developments in Syria, “especially since he believes that the crisis in Syria will take some time.”

He is also concerned that the crisis will take on a violent turn with the eruption of sectarian disputes, which will affect Lebanon.

“This is why he is keen on introducing political calm in Lebanon and ease the tensions order to keep Lebanon away from the Syrian events,” they stressed.

Jumblatt's MPs have the sway so wherever he plants them becomes the parliamentary majority.

I seriously doubt even he knows where he stands.

so basically we understand that Jumblat thinks that bashar is doomed, but also thinks that Hizballah, not yet... I must say I agree.

@charbel, there is a strong possibility that you do not understand much, but that all what you have been seeing were illusions. :) khayra bi ghayra

I am sure there are alternatives to Miqati and not necessarily Hariri!

I was amazed when I heard on Al Arabiyah the interview #3 with Abd Alhalem Khadam who said that Jumblat is a very scared man and he moves to the side of those who pressure him. I now understand why he switched to Huzbullah! Jumblat indeed is a scared individual and therefore his actions are certainly not reliable and measurable. He acts not based on personal conviction but rather on impulse and pressure to events. I used to think he's a shrewd person, but as I heard the interview of AHK I changed my mind totally. This man is never to be trusted. What amazes me as well is the absence of harriri for 8 months so far which I also attribute to his scareness and lack of resistence. What made me laugh my heart out from the interview with AHK is his mentioning that Aoun told Assad that he considers himself the smallest solder in his army if he doesn't attack him in Baabdah palace when he was a president. What a bunch of chickens we do have in Lebanon. They are all useful for nothing.

Jumblatt only joined M8 under threat from the Hezz. They could not have formed a gov't without him. When ASSad is done the Hezz will weaken and Jumblatt will be back in M14 for the new gov't when the M8 gov't is brought down.
