The March 14 General Secretariat condemned on Wednesday the Lebanese government’s position at the Arab League meeting on Saturday, describing its opposition to the suspension of Syria’s membership as “shameful.”

It demanded in a statement after its weekly meeting the resignation of the government “in order to maintain the interests of the Lebanese people and their ties with Syria.”

It also condemned the government’s efforts to defend the Syrian regime, “which it is performing at Damascus’ request.”

“It is busy defending the regime instead of tackling the Lebanese people’s daily concerns and economic and social burdens,” it noted.

The General Secretariat praised the Arab League’s decision to defend the Syrian people in their plight against the regime crackdown against anti-regime demonstrations.

“The Arab position that recognizes the Syrian opposition paves the way for a Syrian Spring,” it added.

The March 14 forces rejected attempts to steer Lebanon away from the fold of the Arab Spring and the international community, stressing that they will continue on supporting the “Syrian Spring”.

On Saturday, the Arab League suspended Syria’s membership in the organization after it failed to implement an Arab initiative that calls on it to implement reform, launch dialogue with the opposition, and end the violence against protesters.

Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen voted against the decision, while Iraq abstained.

Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour stated on Saturday shortly after the vote that the “the resolution taken by the Arab League is dangerous, because it was taken against a member state.”

“These decisions will not help solve the crisis in Syria but will push it towards a very critical stage,” he stressed.

The March 14-led opposition has slammed the decision, saying that it is a sign of the government’s consent to the violence against the Syrian demonstrators.

You can take your demands and shove them... Keep making demands, though. The more demands you make, the more self-shoving you will have to do.
