The final "Hunger Games" installment topped the North American box office for a fourth week with the monster of a whale from "In the Heart of the Sea" landing in second place.

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 2," the fourth and last movie in the blockbuster franchise that turned Jennifer Lawrence into a Hollywood megastar, earned $11.4 million in ticket sales, box office tracker Exhibitor Relations said Monday.

Debuting in the number two spot was "In the Heart of the Sea," which retells the sinking of a 19th-century whaling ship that inspired Herman Melville's "Moby-Dick."

The big-budget film, which stars Chris Hemsworth and was directed by Ron Howard, reportedly cost $100 million to make but raked in only $11.0 million in its first weekend out.

In third with $10.3 million was Disney's animated "The Good Dinosaur."

Meanwhile "Creed," a next-generation version of the "Rocky" series, landed in fourth with total revenue of $10.1 million.

Slipping to fifth place in its second week out was "Krampus," a tale of Christmas gone awry when a boy accidentally summons a demon to his family's holiday gathering, with some $8.4 million.

Results for the rest of the top 10 were as follows:

6. "The Night Before" ($4.1 million)

7. "Spectre" ($4.0 million)

8. "The Peanuts Movie" ($2.7 million)

9. "Spotlight" ($2.5 million)

10. "Brooklyn" ($2.0 million)
