إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةA session to elect a president was postponed again after the needed quorum at parliament was not met.
Speaker Nabih Berri scheduled the next session for September 30.
Commenting on the postponement of the elections for the 28th time, Lebanese Forces MP Georges Adwan said: “There is great pressure from the people to elect a president.”
He also voiced the LF's backing for the adoption of proportionality in a new parliamentary electoral law, “which will achieve the best representation at parliament.”
Numerous electoral sessions have been scheduled, all but one were postponed over a lack of quorum.
Disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps over a compromise candidate have thwarted the election of a successor to Michel Suleiman whose term ended in May 2014.
There are several candidates but none of them is willing to make compromises that would allow lawmakers to attend a session aimed at electing a head of state.
The presidential vacuum has hindered the government's ability to tackle growing security, economic and social problems.
Postpone, delay, extend... get 35,000$ salary at the end of the month. Postpone, delay, extend...
Fhemna, you hate the caporal, perhaps because he's your Doctor Jo's nemesis. You don't see anything or anyone else destroying the country through your anti-orange glasses do you.
Yes either we elect a new parliament that will be legitimate to elect a president (the current one isnt, it passed its expiry date by several years and now STINKS)
Or we elect a president by popular vote and this will be the occasion to see where everyone stands in terms of popular support (only those who know they do not have real popular support will oppose this)
Or the hell with it all, let's have a military regime to tame all the mafiosos and put an end to decades of bickering and running in circles.
Michel Aoun wanted Gebran Bassil to become president of the FPM and no one else. But he knew there was no way this would be achieved through election as per the FPM's charter and constitution. So Michel Aoun the overlord of the FPM used him power to push Gebran's coronation thru. Aoun who knows he cannot be constitutionally elected now hopes that Iran his and his ally's overlords win in the region would help push his candidacy thru.
One of the key issues today that has yet be resolved.... and here we go again for another month of delay... and another. The people in the government do not care, that's the problem. If they did they would listen to the people and act on this. GREED is the most dangerous vice of them all, followed by POWER
