Aoun Hits Back at Critics: My Stances Correspond to Law, Constitution

إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربية W460

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun reiterated on Friday that a decision to extend the term of more than 20 officers in different posts “violates the adopted norms.”

“Some (politicians) are using a political rhetoric and intentions instead of referring to the law and the constitution,” Aoun said in comments published in As Safir newspaper.

He expressed surprise over “the use of misleading facts and linking my objection to politics and the presidential elections.”

The FPM chief lashed out at critics “who are also turning the matter personal by insisting on including the name of (Commando Regiment chief Brig. Gen. Chamel) Roukoz's name in the debate.”

Media reports had said Defense Minister Samir Moqbel had abstained from including the name of Roukoz, who is Aoun's son-in-law, in the list of extension.

Roukoz's tenure ends in October 2015.

“My stance is not linked to the presidency or the family, but strictly based on respecting the state institutions... no more nor less,” Aoun told the newspaper, in response to claims that he aims at pushing Roukoz to head the army if he failed to reach the Baabda Palace.

Lebanon has been without a president since the end of President Michel Suleiman's tenure in May over a sharp debate between the March 14 and 8 coalitions on his successor.

On Tuesday, Moqbel was at loggerheads with the FPM after Aoun decided to withdraw confidence from him over the extension of the term of the head of the Higher Defense Council, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Khair.

The FPM described Moqbel's extension decision as “illegal,” arguing that the defense minister's jurisdiction state that he can extend the terms under the authority of a president.

The tenure of Khair expires on February 22.

The military positions in Lebanon are suffering as the result of the months-long presidential vacuum in light of the parliament's failure to elect a successor for Suleiman. The vacuum also threatens the position of Internal Security Forces chief Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Basbous who is set to retire in June.

The tenure of Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji is also set to end in September. His term was extended for two years in September 2013.

- Like how you're using political rhetoric to boycott Parliament instead of referring to the law and the constitution...

What more can any sane person add to what he said....

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun reiterated on Friday that a decision to extend the term of more than 20 officers in different posts “violates the adopted norms.”

How about the "adopted norms" regarding MP's heading to parliament to perform their duties and elect a president on behalf of the people who elected them and pay their salaries?

Meanwhile Gebran Bassil is touring Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, and Equador on taxpayer's money to meet with Lebanese expatriates.

Vast majority of expats consider the Caporal as a traitor. Imbassil will see this by his own eyes...

Gen. Aoun is an honorable man and attacks on him are an attack against the Resistance. All M14ers should remember that.

Is that a martyred jihadi terrorist family in your avatar?

Default-user-icon Resistance to Change (Guest) 20 February 2015, 14:05

You know "resistance" means being against change (and reform)? It means holding on to the past, the terrible past of Syrian butchery in Lebanon !

Your "threats" (M14 should remember that) are a sign of the terrorism you use to impose yourself on the lebanese people. "Accept the resistance" or face the consequences".

We don't accept you. We piss on Aoun and your entire resistance.

Honour is something you earn, not something you kill for.

There is not a single ounce of honor in Aoun or Nasrallah. Both are cowards hiding behind naive idiots with guns !

Thumb Mystic 20 February 2015, 22:02

Honor for you, is kissing the Israelis feet, and sell yourselves to the West. You can piss on us all you want from overseas, we will piss back on your kind in Lebanon in return.

Yes I will write it openly, accept the Resistance or get lost, you whine about wanting a President, find one that can accept the Resistance or accept the extension for Lebanon's parliament

There are no alternatives, yes you may very well hope for ISIS & Nusra or Israel to conquer Lebanon to remove the Resistance.

Missing humble 20 February 2015, 10:37

There is no more resistance...Ebola has killed the coexistence and is destroying the institutions.

Remind me of the case of charbel nahhas, aoun and his caucus voice their unequivocal support of his stance because it corresponds to the law and the constitution, then Nasralla's orders were jump we need to move on with the cabinet work. Aoun did not ask how high, he simply threw charbel nahhas under the nearest bus, complete with his stance corresponding to the laws and cconstitution.

(1). One cannot but love the fun this old man provides. First he talks of the respect of the law in a topical manner yet will continue to lead his life in routine ways that break the law. Aoun the claoun seems to forget, intentionally or not that remains his prerogative but it won't change the fact that this man lives and thrives on proscription. Who broke the constitution when appointed Interim PM in the late 90s by Amin Gemayel? Who attacked the Syrian occupiers only to turn the guns provided him by the LF on the LF thereafter? Who against the will of all inisted on staying in Baabda and this against the constitution? Then, who fled leaving his men and family behind, had it not been for HK, only God knows what would have happened to his family. Who keeps biting the hand that feeds him? Who keeps saying one thing only to recant minutes later? Who accuses then exonerates? Who keeps contradicting himself time and time again?

(2). Who keeps peddling one dumb idea after the other only to further his insane course and that of his mentors, Hezbollah notably? Who creates, fabricates and accuses falsely, using the latest tools of the trade like Photoshop and other means only use more lies and whitewash to extricate himself when uncovered? Who now is delaying the presidency for his own aims? Mr. Aoun or better known as the wanna be general, the wanna be Bachir Gemayel, the wanna be Charles De Gaulle, the wanna be Napoleon Bonaparte when in fact you are nothing better than Idi Amin, Il Duce Mussolini and Ceausescu albeit all molded into one sick person, how can you talk of upholding the law and the constitution when you are prime contender with your backers Hezbollah and the Syrian regime as law and constitution breakers?

Thumb -phoenix1 20 February 2015, 12:59

(3). Maybe you believe that everyone that hears you is a nut-case when in fact your support base has shrank tremendously thankfully, let alone those who've always had enough proof not to believe a thing from you. You may have a TV station, your cash could come from dubious sources, you may have guns to protect your tongue and lies, but for sure, you won't be around forever, neither would your backers and even less the guns they use against their Lebanese siblings. Lebanon however will stay and forever so and things will get better with a empowered Lebanese Army. Against your wishes and dreams, our army's generals will stay till we finish off that dung called ISIS and Al Jursah, or better known as Al Nusra.

Sure, he cites the constitution when its family getting slighted, but when the country is denied the election of a president, because Aoun boycotts electoral sessions against the constitution, then to hell with the constitution, says Aoun.

An unprincipled hypocrite, self promoting ego maniac. But that is harsh, better that he is a senile old man who can't remember what he does or says from one minute to the next.

Thumb megahabib 20 February 2015, 21:59

I'm surprised how many Sunnis love Geagea. So how many civilian Sunnis have Aoun killed in comparison?
