Report: Jumblat Postpones Resignation at Berri's Insistence
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةProgressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat has backed down from his decision to resign as a lawmaker at the request of Speaker Nabih Berri, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Saturday.
A parliamentary source revealed that Berri had asked Jumblat to postpone his resignation to May in order to allow the government to take the necessary arrangements to hold by-elections.
The by-elections would be aimed at filling the voids left at parliament from the death of MP Michel Helou and the resignation of Jumblat and expected resignation of Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh.
Franjieh is reportedly stepping down in favor of his son Tony.
The by-elections, should they be held, would take place in the Jezzine region, to fill Helou's seat, the Shouf region, to fill Jumblat's seat, and Zgharta, to fill Franjieh's seat.
Key to holding the by-elections is the government's formation of the authority to oversee the polls.
The parliamentary source told al-Joumhouria: “The formation of this authority and the suitable security and political conditions are necessary for the polls to be held.”
Jumblat had held talks earlier this week with Berri.
He is likely to cede his parliamentary seat to his son Taimur.
Helou passed away in June 2014 after a long battle with illness.
M.T.
democracy in motion.... criminal and corrupt warlords running fiefdoms they inherited and will pass on to their privileged children while the normal citizen watches in despair.
And the children will be the same criminals...except Sami I hope there's no way he can be worse than Amine...lol
Jumbo, those who have no clarity in their vision, who cannot define a clear objective, and who change their principles with the wind are not leaders. PLEASE GO you are not needed.
Berri just does'nt want elections of any type this whole government is unconstitutional we have anarchist running the country the prisoners are running the jail.
do we deserve better??????????the "Druzian" and all other 18 religions are against civil marriage,a first step to social peace, do we deserve better?
I see, so only Berri and Jumblatt heals the country?? Loool again in your mind everyone is corrupt and evil but Aoun. Flamey, I'm really sick of your views. If we're gonna banish one or two politicians, everyone needs to be banished, meaning Berri, Jumbo, Aoun, Geagea, Amine, Franjieh, Sanioura, and last but surely not least the terrorist militia.
They're the longest tenured mafioso in the country loooooool so that makes them the only mafioso??? Flamey, it's either all are removed or none. This all goes back to your double standards, trying to justify one's criminality over another. Either they're all justified or none are.
And no, removing them will not remove most of the country's problems. There is still Hezbollah, Mustaqbal, Aoun, Geagea, Amine (who's stepping down soon thank God), and Franjiyeh.
You will await my proof of Aoun's corruption??? Loooooool how many times have I talked about his treachery on this site: rescuing Elie Hobeiqa during the Karantina clashes, claiming to fight Syria when he used Syrian-controlled areas (Elie Hobeiqa personally escorted Aoun's highest-ranking officers up to Dhour Chweir) to smuggle artillery and fuel to fight his personal war with Geagea (Aoun's Sarba base was previously taken over by Geagea).
Aoun claimed to be fighting a "war of liberation" then he said he wanted "to unify Christian arms."
Check this out.

Collaborating with Hobeiqa and Syria is proof of treachery, especially since Aoun claimed to be fighting Syria. Read the article and enjoy it.
Of course you're gonna deny it and say it's Ouwwet-Israeli propaganda. The guy was Hobeiqa's bodyguard, and that stuff can't even be made up. Plus, why would he make it up? He was Hobeiqa's bodyguard, he talks about all the crimes he was supposed to do on HK's behalf. So all the stuff about Aoun is real.
And logically, where was Aoun gonna get artillery from, Yarze?? Loool of course he needed an avenue, and that's when he collaborated with Syrians...
So you go ahead and keep living in your delusional world where your Généwal is a patriot and defended Lebanon against foreign occupation. Just don't ask me again to "prove" of Aoun's corruption lol him being allied with a group he previously called terrorists is enough proof (he called Hezbollah terrorists during his time in France).
