Mustaqbal: STL Funding Not Open to Discussion

The Mustaqbal bloc stressed on Tuesday that the executive authority and government in Lebanon are obligated to fund the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “This issue is not open for discussion.”

The government should implement Lebanon’s international obligations, as stated by President Michel Suleiman during his presidential oath and the cabinet’s policy statement, it added.

“It is clear that some sides are trying to obstruct the tribunal’s funding and they are also preventing the suspects in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri from being handed over to international justice,” it noted.

Such actions will only lead Lebanon towards a confrontation with the international community, it warned.

The STL had issued arrest warranted accusing four Hizbullah members of being involved in Hariri’s 2005 assassination.

The party has meanwhile refused to cooperate with the tribunal, deeming it an American-Israeli product aimed at destroying the group.

@ Le Phenicien, i'm sure that a deja vue for you :) at least SH didn't run to the french embassy asking for asylum... to bad they didn't put him in one :D

I don't usually right cheap talk like this as i prefer to keep my conversations in the realm of maturity, but after continuously reading your banter, i had to stoop to your level. You won, this time; you dragged me down to your level. That's what's wrong with our dear country instead of having adult like conversations it always leads to cheap talk. I would have rather read you right a simple comment saying that constitutionally Lebanon does not have to fund the STL.... But hey that's me

We didn't hear anyone talk about discussing the STL. What we want is for the illegal funding of an illegal and lame joke to stop. It's like when there is a show in town. We cannot be force to watch it especially if it is boring and dumb. Those who want to support the troupe can go and buy tickets themselves. The same with this farce called the STL, which actually stands for Suck This Lollipop.
