Jordan Man on Trial over Australia Embassy Bomb Threat
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةA Jordanian man went on trial Monday accused of threatening to blow up the Australian embassy in Amman, in a message sent through his Facebook account.
Ali al-Hasanat, who faces up to 15 years in jail if found guilty, denied any wrongdoing during the hearing of the state security court in Amman.
The 37-year-old has been accused of using the Internet "to carry out activity that could expose Jordan to acts of aggression".
The charge sheet alleges that in January he sent a message through his Facebook account to the Australian embassy in Amman "threatening to blow it up".
A "picture of a bullet" was said to have been attached to the message.
Hasanat is also accused of posting another message "threatening to kill Australian tourists", according to the charge sheet, a copy of which was seen by AFP.
The trial was adjourned to Monday to give Hasanat time to find a lawyer.
