A mother and her six children were found dead Sunday evening inside their house at Omar bin al-Khattab Street in the Beirut neighborhood of Basta, state-run National News Agency reported.

Nawal Younes 55, Hadi 25, Ameen 23, Maha 20, Manal 18, Zahraa and Zahra 15 were all shot dead at their home while the father was away.

Ali al-Amin al-Hajj Dib, the father, returned from his hometown in Aramta in the Jezzine district with his two daughters, where he visited his parents, and then he went out to his bakery to return an hour and a half later to find his wife and 6 children murdered.

According to preliminary information, the eldest brother Hadi had killed his mother and five siblings before committing suicide with an automatic hunting rifle.

Media reports claimed that Hadi had some kind of disability and might suffer from autism.

However, the Lebanese Autism Society ruled out in a statement on Monday these claims saying that the man who committed the crime couldn't be suffering from autism.

“Disability has never been a reason to commit such crimes,” the statement said.

It noted that “an autistic person doesn’t have the ability to use the type of rifles used in the murder. Furthermore, an autistic person can’t commit suicide.”

As Safir newspaper reported on Monday that the wounds of the eldest son, Hadi were in the mouth and his body was found in a room next to the murder scene.

An eye witness told the daily that he saw the janitor leave his room after he was informed that a murder happened in the building, noting that “one of the mother’s siblings had a heart attack after seeing the bodies.”

Another relative of the murdered woman entered the building at around 12:00 am Monday shouting that he had “important information, which happened a few days before the crime.”

He was immediately called by the security forces to take his testimony.

Security sources remarked that the gun shots were not heard by the neighbors.

“The neighbors denied hearing any got shots, stressing they only heard the sound of a door being slammed roughly,” sources told the newspaper.

The NNA reported that “Beirut police Chief Ahmed Hnaini and forensics arrived at the crime scene to identify the circumstances."

That's why guns and all sorts of weapons shouldn't be wandering in the streets of Lebanon...

Hezbollah and any Weapons MUST be taken away from any non-military or Army citizen. Even an ISF or Army officers can be jailed or his weapon can be taken away if used in a non-business (during the job) manner.
Hunting weapons require permits from the municipalities. If abused it will be taken away and the owners will be accountable for it.
This is how we build safe Countries.

Horrible massacre and sad news for Lebanon. We can extract many lessons out of this tragedy
1- The Lebanese should modify the "second amendment" . Hence only handguns should be allowed to be acquired for self defence....i.e RPG is not for self defence
1.1- Arms dealing should be prohibited… period...
1.2- Hunting festivals should be banned..Period
1.3- Fireworks should be banned at least the one we hear everyday
1.4 - The ministry of defense should stop distributing weapons permission
1.5- the 911 (or similar) service should available to serve the citizen
1.6- Mr Ziad Baroud should return as an empowered minister
2- The government should specialized social services to support people with psychological disorders.

Sad story for the murdered and surviving family member. Automatic hunting rifles to hunt elephants and grizzly bears in mount lebanon?

only filthy zionist information war department can link every crime that ever happens in Lebanon to our glorious resistance.

Missing th21 19 September 2011, 14:27

Jabal amel, seriously, your " zionist war department " line is getting really old.

the truth never gets old

Default-user-icon jabal amel (Guest) 19 September 2011, 15:02

and by the war it's not "war department", it's "information war department".

how does it get old when you didn't even remember it?

Very sad . . . .

This story is a domestic issue and politics have no place here!

LoL jabal amel, i havent read one article on naharnet where you dont mention zionism. Your intelligence must be operating on another, deeper kind of level since you were able to link a murder/suicide of a poor baker's family to the zionist conspiracy in lebanon (again).
Please report your new, original findings to the proper authorities, and thank you for doing this country a favor by solving this crime.
Sorry, i meant conspiracy!

@ sunni... umm,... No.

Defense strategy = army has full control over country, only group to maintain arms and defend the country.

And I dont know anything about guns. Shove your AK up you know where...

no right minded fair lebanese or any human being for that matter can connect this sad event to Hezb, to do so suggests ignorance and worse prejudice

Mr Flash and Others,

This tragedy shouldn't be used for any political reason. Mowaten shame on you for using the blood of those victims for your own sectarian purpose...Be human and show some respect
Back to you Mr Flash. Do you have an idea about the 2 amendment and the civilized countries!??/
I think killing birds is a unjustified and cruel habit that you should stop it...
Cheers

it is sad to see these comments, while a whole family is wiped.
Yes guns should be restricted, if for nothing else than to stop these killings.
each day several incidents involving weapons are causing harm.
only our armed forces should bear weapons, no one else
