Geagea Calls Qahwaji, Hopes Tripoli Battle was Decisive in Eradicating Terrorism
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةLebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea hoped on Monday that the latest battles between the army and extremists in the northern city of Tripoli were decisive.
Geagea's press office said that the LF chief telephoned Army commander Maj. Gen. Jean Qahwaji stressing his “support for the military institution against terrorism and extremism.”
Geagea informed the military chief that “all the Lebanese, mainly the residents of Tripoli and the North, stand behind the army in its battle” with terrorists.
The LF chief “hoped that the Tripoli battle was decisive and final to root out terrorists taking refuge in the city's markets and streets.”
The capital of the North proved once again that it does not embrace terrorism, he said.
Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat later contacted Qahwaji to voice his support to the army in its efforts to maintain stability and security throughout Lebanon.
Lebanese troops entered the Tripoli neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh on Monday where thousands of civilians had fled deadly fighting with militants who have battled the army across the northern city for three days.
The coastal city has seen repeated clashes between Sunni militants sympathetic to rebel fighters in neighboring Syria and Alawites loyal to the Damascus regime.
The army has also come under growing attack by Sunnis who accuse it of colluding with Hizbullah in its intervention in the Syrian conflict on the side of the regime.

Absolutely not libanon_first
I only support LEBANON, LAF, ISF. All our warlord politicians and armed militias should be flushed out of the country.
Now go ahead tell me who you support?
helicopter then why did you assume that slow.news.day is a HA supporter? and why did you insult the guy for stating his/her opinion? this is not about me and who I support so dont try to divert the discussion. Just admit you went out of line and took slow.news.day's post so personally that one would think you are closely related to geagea.
l_f,
too answer you simply is because I assumed he is a HA supporter. If he is then I was right, if he is not then my apologies to him/her.
I had no problems with you asking me who I support, I hope you do not either. No insult is intended in what I said/asked. I only wanted to see if there the hatred for Gaegae stems from a true patriotic feeling or from a Sectarian feeling - the answer makes huge difference.
I get tiredd of M8ers who cheer the army only when the LAF attack their opponents. Same with M14ers who support the army when it attacks their opponents. I respect only those that would support the LAF no matter who the enemy is and strive to keep the institution void of Sectarianism and political gains.
The question should be: home come all other crooks and criminals (Berri, Nassrallah, Jumblat, Emile Lahoud, and many others) never entered jail?
Another question is why do we allow zones for influence outsidde the State (Tripoli, Saida, Dahye, Brital, Nabatiyye, Palastenian camps, Naameh, NFLP, SNNP etc.)...... they should all be swept out by LAF and allow the State to flourish.
Welcome back... Dr. Mustafa Geagea al Manfalouti has finally lost it. No wonder he was inducted into the Sunni Hall of Crazies during his visit to Saudi Arabia where he was circumcised (and as I was told, nothing was left down there) and officially became a nut !!!!!
Dr. Geagea, as a Bachir Gemayel LFer, as an LFer who also stood by you during those difficult days, may I ask you once and for all to distance yourself from the radical Sunni. I am with you 100% to stay by the side of the Sunni moderates, but NOT the radical ones. Even we are all 100% on the army's side, but some of your past statements that never questioned the stances of the radicals never sat well with people like me. Either we are with the state and we will have a strong and viable state, or we shall limp forever.
