Jumblat Holds Onto Rotation of Portfolios as Bassil Considers it Targets FPM

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat stressed on Wednesday that there is consensus between all parties on adopting the rotation in ministerial portfolios, persuading the Free Patriotic Movement to agree on the matter.

“We cannot reject the rotation of portfolios, which was agreed on by President Michel Suleiman, Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister-designate Tammam Salam,” Jumblat informed FPM caretaker Energy Minister Jebran Bassil.

The Druze leader stressed during talks with Bassil the importance of dealing “fairly” with the FPM regarding the ministerial representation.

Jumblat told Bassil that “a political deal regarding the rotation of portfolios was carried out,” however, Bassil informed the PSP leader that the “deal doesn't concern the party as it infringes its rights.”

“The rotation of portfolios is rejected as we are being targeted by adopting it,” Bassil said, noting that there is no “justification nor sense in adopting this concept in a cabinet that will not last long.”

Bassil recently kicked off a round of talks with various political powers to discuss the cabinet formation process.

He has so far met with Suleiman and Salam.

Salam, who was appointed in April, informed Bassil that he is holding onto the concept of “fair, balanced and comprehensive rotation of portfolios.”

Head of the FPM MP Michel Aoun reiterated on Tuesday his rejection to the concept of rotating portfolios, considering it an attempt to "tamper with the Christian representation."

The cabinet formation process was put on the front burner after Berri proposed a revised 8-8-8 government formula and Suleiman said he would form a so-called neutral cabinet if the political rivals don't agree on an all-embracing government within ten days.

Amid the Lebanese Forces' rejection of Hizbullah's participation in the cabinet, the March 14 camp has reportedly accepted the 8-8-8 formula in principle, but it is awaiting answers pertaining to the ministerial policy statement and the rotation of portfolios among political parties.

The 8-8-8 formula divides ministers equally between the centrists and March 14 and 8 alliances, in which each get eight ministers with “decisive ministers” for the March 14 and 8 coalitions.

Cut the BS Bassil we know what you're up to, you know there will be a vaccum somehow somewhere and chances are these ministers will remain in their posts for a very long time. ie more commissions for you. And what better method is there than to be managing all the lucrative contracts and deals. From a rejected application of 20,000 $ car loan before you became anything to billionair. Min aina lakka hathaa!!!!

Thumb ice-man 22 January 2014, 08:38

his application for a car loan was rejected, really???? This cannot be true, perhaps just rumors to tarnish his reputation. For one thing a guy who owns a private jet does not need a car let alone a car loan. Plesse, refrain from spreading rumors, and thank you!

Mr. Cedars the Second: Please, don't forget that he himself discovered oil and gas off our clean shores. He also went himself along with a delegation from the FPM to the South following the 2006 divine victory and helped build the resistance homes. He also discovered wifi, wimax , and 3G and a half. He increased internet speeds from 250k to 1 megabits at a reasonable cost. It used to take my parents one week to download one song for fadel shaker while now it only takes them 3 days.
So, please add those to his achievements as well.

Every time a solution starts pointing its nose, new problems pop out as well!
Bassil or Jumblat... one crook or the other... what difference does it make!?
At the end of the day, it is the people getting ripped off!
Nevertheless, Bassil is very obvious on the heist he is trying to pull off...

Bassil informed the PSP leader that the “deal doesn't concern the party as it infringes its rights.”

Mr. Bassil, who gave you those rights? The lebanese people or the constitution or your hard work or a referendum or your father in law!

Yes FT we see the amazing job they are doing now. When I see them in parliament "M8" it reminds of the zoo for some reason. When I see your comments I get flashbacks of my childhood when I believed there was a santa and toothfairies. FT I hate to break it to you there is no santa and it was your parents that put the money under your pillow not the toothfairies, now run along and tell the rest of your M8 masses so that they know.

Thumb cedars2 22 January 2014, 10:50

At least I know who my parents are ya Jaffar.

Thumb ice-man 22 January 2014, 10:51

@Cedars the Second: There are no M8 masses. It is only him and 40 other screen names that he created. Oh, sorry, there is Southern.

Thumb cedars2 22 January 2014, 12:40

Ah yes we had a jaffar that tried to steal her car, was that you ya mihtal??!!

Thumb cedars2 22 January 2014, 10:24

Listen Jafaar did you know that the head of Electricity in Zahleh said he can solve Lebanons electricity problems at a fraction of the cost and give us the "24/7" electricity for the whole country in 4 months. No one listened to him. Why why why???

Thumb ice-man 22 January 2014, 10:46

Dear Jaafar: Please, don't turn everything into a sectarian debate. You should rise above these petty things and think big picture. Thankyou!

Thumb proudm14. 22 January 2014, 14:57

You are absolutely right.

What does that have to do with FPM rights though?

You're an idiot.

Hold on a minute, I thought this was to be an interim cabinet, right? One that was to oversee the country through the other obstacles that need a cabinet to do so, then why is there now talk of post rotation, are they hoping to stay there forever? This is what I always suspected, there people are not here for the sake of the Lebanese people, neither do they worry about a unified Lebanon, the whole thing is purely for their own interests. Next time they talk of a unified Lebanon, please SPIT on their faces, that's my being mild. Shameful same crooks, period.

**These people...**

Thumb sevilla 22 January 2014, 14:06

I am afraid this rotation principle will only lead to more embezzlement but a faster rate. The incumbent minister will have to steal more quickly since he/she will be afraid his position will be given to someone else.

Missing peace 22 January 2014, 18:19

aren't ALL the ministries useful to a country? why all this fuss by FPM? or do they just see a ministry as a lucrative business from which they can steal? if they were patriots they would consider all ministries as important as they all serve the country, no? LOL

Wow. Let's give Aoun 1 kg fustuk plus 0.5 kg turmus.
Right? And so on.
