Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat accused on Thursday General Security chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim of utterly following the Syrian regime’s orders by deporting 14 Syrians.

“It would be useful to remind (Ibrahim) that Syria and during the stability period in the country didn’t have any true concept of independent judicial system, like all the other dictatorial regimes,” Jumblat said in a statement.

The cabinet failed for the second day in a row on Tuesday to agree on an electoral law based on proportionality proposed by Interior Minister Marwan Charbel over disagreements on the division of districts and the voting of Lebanese expatriates.

“Proportionality and the number of districts need more discussions,” Information Minister Walid al-Daouq said following a cabinet session held at Baabda palace.

The cabinet discussed on Monday an electoral draft-law proposed by Interior Minister Marwan Charbel that is likely to hit a stumbling block over the rejection of ministers loyal to Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat to adopt it.

The cabinet that convened at Baabda Palace agreed however to continue discussions on the draft-law that is based on proportional representation, Information Minister Walid al-Daouq said.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat noted that some Lebanese security agencies are receiving order from the Syrian regime, reported the daily An Nahar on Sunday.

He told the daily: “The Syrian regime is as powerful as it ever was in Lebanon.”

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat criticized Hizbullah for announcing that it is premature for political leaders to discuss the national defense strategy because the party is still in the liberation stage.

“I’ve heard a statement from MP Mohammed Raad that there would be no surrender of arms before liberation. I object to that because the Lebanese state is the side that decides the liberation of Shebaa farms and Kfarshouba hills through the means that it sees fit,” Jumblat told a delegation of Arab journalists.

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat supported the demand of the March 14 coalition for the government to provide the so-called telecom data to security agencies to prevent future plots against Lebanese politicians.

In remarks to As Safir daily published Friday, Jumblat justified the opposition’s demand to hand over all telecom data including the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) to security bodies by saying “they have witnessed assassination attempts and the involved (telecom) minister (Nicolas Sehnaoui) is obstructing the data.”

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat slammed on Monday the Syrian regime’s “latest massacre” in the town of Treimsa, accusing it of seeking to “systematically destroy the country and lead it to fragmentation.”

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa magazine: “The Syrian people will be victorious in their revolt despite the international and Arab silence over their plight.”
