Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat reiterated on Monday his support for political dialogue in Lebanon, while voicing his rejection to “once again linking Lebanon's fate to Syria's.”

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website: “We stress the need to demarcate the border in the Shebaa Farms and Kfarshouba Hills to end the ongoing misconceptions over this issue.”

Health Minister Wael Abou Faour accused on Saturday the Syrian regime of committing assassinations in Lebanon, expressing fear that the presidential crisis could lead to a “constitutional vortex.”

“I believe that when (Syrian President Bashar) Assad feels that he is militarily comfortable he will have more time to tamper with the situation in Lebanon,” Abou Faour said in an interview with the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on Monday warned the minority Druze community of Syria against being dragged into the Syrian regime's “war of killing and destruction.”

“The regime's policies that are based on turning regions and sects against each other are aimed at inflaming the fire of strife and prolonging the conflict,” Jumblat cautioned in his weekly editorial in PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa newspaper.

National Struggle Front MP Akram Shehayeb stressed on Monday that the bloc will not boycott the parliament, highlighting the importance of widening the centrists bloc instead of creating new ones.

“We have never boycotted the parliament,” Shehayeb said in an interview with An Nahar newspaper.

Head of the Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Fouad Saniora is scheduled to present his testimony before the Special Tribunal for Lebanon on Monday, reported al-Joumhouria newspaper on Saturday.

Widely-informed sources told the daily that the testimony “introduces a new phase of the trial.”

A meeting between Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun and Progressive Socialist Party chief MP Walid Jumblat touched on the presidential elections, the adoption of draft-laws and the extension of the tenure of high-ranking security officials.

Local dailies described on Wednesday the visit as “positive” and comes to repay a similar visit by Jumblat to Rabieh on August 6.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat on Thursday urged the Druze Arabs in Israel to run in the upcoming legislative polls in “unified” lists with the aim of achieving “drastic change.”

“Once again I address this appeal to the Druze Arabs in occupied Palestine, who are suffering along with their Palestinian brothers from occupation, tyranny and injustice due to the practices of Israel, which is seeking to totally eradicate the Arab identity,” said Jumblat in a statement.

The Progressive Socialist Party clarified Tuesday afternoon the content of an interview for party chief MP Walid Jumblat with As Safir newspaper, noting that his son, Taymour, will run normally in parliamentary elections “just like other candidates.”

The line saying “Jumblat will hand over his Shouf parliamentary seat to his son Taymour in May” was “inaccurate”, the PSP said in a statement.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat stressed the need on Monday for Lebanon to tackle its offshore oil and gas wealth, saying that tenders should be launched to that end.

He said in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anba website: “Lebanon should announce these tenders for it to take advantage of its wealth and preserve its rights before they are stolen wasted, or lost.”
