The Army Command denied on Tuesday a media report that a three-member cell arrested in Rmeileh was planning to shoot down a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon helicopter.

It stressed in a statement that investigations with the group are ongoing.

The Saint George Hospital University Medical Center in Beriut’s Ashrafiyeh neighborhood is expected to inaugurate on Thursday a helipad on the roof of the building during a ceremony sponsored by Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Beirut Elias Audeh.

The inauguration will take place at 11:00 a.m. and will include medical maneuvers by the Lebanese airforce and members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, in cooperation with medical and technical teams from the hospital.

The house of a Lebanese man was damaged by cross-border fire in the northern area of Wadi Khaled at dawn Saturday, a day after the army began heavily deploying on the northern and northeastern boundary with Syria.

Several bullets hit the house of Mohammed Abadi after gunfire reached the villages of Hnaider, al-Hishe and al-Muqaibla in Wadi Khaled. But no casualties were reported.

United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly attended a tripartite meeting held at al-Naqoura crossing between the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon and senior Lebanese and Israel officials.

UNIFIL Commander Maj.-Gen. Paolo Serra presided the meeting on Wednesday.

President Michel Suleiman and his French counterpart Francois Hollande are expected to discuss the repercussions of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon over dinner at the Elysee palace on July 12, An Nahar daily reported on Tuesday.

Suleiman will travel to Paris on July 11 on a two-day business visit, it said.

United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon spokesperson Andrea Tenenti denied on Monday that the dispute which took place during the weekend between several Irish contingent troops and civilians, is linked to the incidents that targeted the UNIFIL in the past few years.

“It’s an individual incident, the contingent wasn’t attacked or subjected to any violence,” Tenenti told the pan-Arab daily al-Sharq al-Awsat.

United Nations Interim Force spokesperson Andrea Tenenti said on Saturday that a dispute occurred between peacekeeping troops and the residents of the southern border town of Maroun al-Ras .

According to the National News Agency, the UNIFIL peacekeepers were taking snapshots of the area when several civilians came across and took the camera from them.

Lebanese shepherd Youssef Zahra, who was kidnapped by Israeli forces from a disputed area, returned to Lebanon after he was released on Saturday.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon handed over Zahra to the Lebanese army intelligence base in the area of Naqoura.

President Michel Suleiman is scheduled to head to Paris in July to meet with French President Francois Hollande at the Elysee.

According to al-Joumhouria newspaper published on Friday, preparations are ongoing to set the official appointments during his visit to France.

United Nations Special Coordinator Derek Plumbly paid a visit on Thursday to southern Lebanon, where he praised the implementation of U.N. Security Council resolution 1701.

He said: “The strong cooperation that exists between UNIFIL, the Lebanese army and the local population is key to its success.”
