A U.N. team mandated by international envoy Kofi Annan will leave for Damascus on Monday, the former U.N. secretary general's spokesman said.

North Korea said Saturday it would invite foreign experts and journalists to observe a satellite launch which the United States and other countries see as a disguised missile test.

The Korean Committee for Space Technology "will invite experienced foreign experts on space science and technology and journalists" to visit the launch site and other places to observe the blast-off next month, the official news agency said.

Iraq has informed Iran that it will not permit arms shipments to Syria to pass through or over its territory, government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said on Saturday.

Russia said Friday it was using its contacts with the Syrian regime of President Bashar Assad to urge Damascus to fully cooperate with the mission of U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan.

President Michel Suleiman received on Thursday United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon’s “strategic revision” of the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, reported the daily An Nahar on Friday.

It said that the six-page report is aimed at guaranteeing that the international force will be able to complete its peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

U.N.-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan on Wednesday pressed President Bashar al-Assad to quickly answer proposals to end Syria's strife ahead of a new diplomatic surge aimed at passing a Security Council resolution on the crisis.

Annan, who on Friday will brief the U.N. Security Council on his mission, announced that he has received one response from Assad's government.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday criticized President Bashar Assad for the "big delay" in reform in Syria, saying Damascus was failing to swiftly follow Moscow's advice.

"Unfortunately, our advice is reflected practically in his actions far from all the time and far from in a timely manner," Lavrov told the lower house parliament in a rare show of public frustration with the Syrian leader.

Russia said Tuesday it will press Syria to accept international monitors who could observe the implementation of a "simultaneous" ceasefire between government troops and rebels.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia was discussing the proposal with both the Arab League countries and at the United Nations, where the Security Council debated the crisis on Monday.

Top officials from the United States, Russia, United Nations and European Union will meet Monday to discuss deadlocked efforts to end the Israel-Palestinian conflict, the U.N. said.

It will be the first top level meeting of the diplomatic Quartet in six months and comes amid a new flare-up in violence which has left at least 21 Palestinians dead in Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip since Friday.

Iran stands fully behind Syria and blames the United States and Arab nations for the bloody unrest shaking its ally, media on Monday quoted a deputy foreign minister as saying.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran underlines its total support for the Syrian people and government," Hossein Amir Abdollahian said, according to Iran's official IRNA news agency.
