Lebanon will take part on Wednesday in a scientific research that will enable scientists to trigger an early tsunami alert before it occurs.

“Lebanon will participate in a new scientific research that includes several countries in the region in an attempt to issue an early tsunami alert,” chairman of the National Research Council Moein Hamza told Voice of Lebanon radio on Wednesday.

Five members of Iran's security forces including an officer were killed when their vehicle was ambushed by "terrorists" in northwestern Iran, a local official told Fars news agency on Tuesday.

"Five police personnel were martyred... when their vehicle was destroyed" in West Azerbaijan province at midday on Monday, the city of Maku's governor, Hamid Ahmadian, told the agency.

Security forces killed at least 30 civilians on Tuesday in Syria, among them 17 in the eastern protest hub of Deir Ezzor, activists said.

"At least 15 people were killed in different parts of Deir Ezzor which has been raided by tanks and vehicles mounted with machine guns," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said, quoting activists at the scene.

Turkey's foreign minister has left for Damascus to press the Syrian leadership into ending the violent crackdown of the five-month old uprising.

Ahmet Davutoglu's visit on Tuesday comes days after Turkey said its patience with its neighbor was running out. Envoys from India, Brazil and South Africa are also slated to arrive in Damascus on Tuesday to appeal for an end to the violence.

A Turkish court issued arrest warrants for seven active generals and admirals pending trial over an alleged plot to overthrow the Islamist-rooted government, Anatolia news agency said Monday.

The suspects included Generals Nusret Tasdeler, the head of the army's educational command and Ismail Hakki Pekin, the intelligence chief of the general staff, NTV news channel said.

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat said Monday that he discussed with Turkish officials the situation in Lebanon, the events in Syria and the inter-Palestinian reconciliation.

In remarks to As Safir daily following his return from Turkey, Jumblat lauded the Turkish stance from all issues.

Syrian President Bashar Assad’s advisor Buthaina Shaaban criticized on Sunday’s Turkey’s position on the developments in Syria, saying that its Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will hear “stronger statements when he visits Syria.”

She said in a statement: “If the Turkish foreign minister believes that he is arriving in Syria to deliver a firm message, then he will hear a firmer message from us.”

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat may meet with former Prime Minister Saad Hariri in Paris, revealed a March 14 source to the Kuwaiti al-Anbaa newspaper on Sunday.

It said that he may hold the talks with the former premier in the upcoming hours before returning to Lebanon.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will visit Syria on Tuesday with the message that Ankara "has run out of patience" with the ongoing violence, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

"We have reached the end of our patience and that's why I am sending the foreign minister to Syria on Tuesday," Erdogan was quoted by the Anatolia news agency as saying.

Turkey said Friday the Syrian regime's deadly crackdown on civilian protestors is "unacceptable" and "illegitimate", Anatolia news agency reported.

"The developments in Syria as I emphasized before are unacceptable," Anatolia quoted Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu as saying.
