Al-Mustaqbal movement denied on Thursday that it was involved in calls to hold a demonstration in support of the Syrian people in the northern port city of Tripoli.

The movement said in a statement that some media outlets and politicians were seeking to accuse al-Mustaqbal of involvement in the invitations for a demonstration against Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime on Friday.

U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon warned on Wednesday that the presence of “militias” in Lebanon continues to threaten security in the country as well as the region, urging a formal border delineation with Syria.

"The delineation of the Syrian-Lebanese border ... has not yet taken place," read Ban’s report on the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1559, which was adopted in 2004 and calls for "the disbanding and disarmament" of all factions in Lebanon.

Israeli Deputy Premier Moshe Ya’alon stated on Wednesday that the Israeli army “is ready for any possible scenario” on the Jewish state’s border with Lebanon.

He said during a tour of the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights: “The developments in Syria are a sign that the people want freedom that the current regime in Damascus cannot provide.”

The March 14 General Secretariat condemned on Wednesday the Syria’s accusations that the Mustaqbal movement is meddling in Syria’s internal affairs.

It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “Hizbullah has taken advantage of the Syrian campaign to attack the movement and accuse it of Syria’s fabricated accusations in order to settle scores with the March 14 forces after its repeated demands that the party be disarmed.”

Najib Miqati’s press office denied on Wednesday that the Premier-designate’s brother went to Damascus the day before to set the stage for a visit by Miqati and President Michel Suleiman to the Syrian capital.

Syrian authorities arrested an opposition figure in the restive city of Homs as rights groups derided the government's move to end decades of draconian emergency rule, an activist said to France Agence Press on Wednesday.

Rami Abdel Rahman of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Mahmoud Issa was taken into custody in Homs on Tuesday; hours after the cabinet approved a bill to rescind the state of emergency.

The war of words between al-Mustaqbal movement and the March 8 forces seems not to be abating after Caretaker Foreign Minister Ali al-Shami said a cabinet session should be held to meet the demands of al-Mustaqbal to summon the Syrian ambassador.

Al-Shami’s press office said Tuesday that “the issue of summoning the Syrian ambassador … requires a cabinet session.”

Syria's government approved on Tuesday a bill to rescind a decades-old emergency law and agreed to abolish the state security court, after weeks of pro-democracy protests and hundreds of deaths.

The cabinet also approved a bill regulating demonstrations, the official news agency SANA reported, only hours after the interior minister imposed a total ban on political gatherings and after security forces fired on protesters in the city of Homs, killing four.

The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc condemned on Tuesday Syria’s accusations against MP Jamal al-Jarrah that he was funding a terrorist cell stirring unrest in Syria.

It said in a statement after its weekly meeting: “The movement and its bloc have not and do not intend on meddling in the developments in Syria.”
