Berri Urges Members of his Bloc to Avoid Comments on Yemen Coalition

Speaker Nabih Berri has reportedly informed the members of his parliamentary bloc not to make statements on the Saudi-led coalition against Shiite rebels in Yemen.

The Kuwaiti al-Anba daily on Monday quoted Berri as telling his visitors that he informed Development and Liberation lawmakers and members of his Amal movement to avoid positive or negative remarks about the Saudi air strikes on the Huthi rebels.

Russian Navy Evacuates over 300 from Yemen

A Russian navy ship has evacuated 308 people of various nationalities from war-torn Yemen, a defense ministry official said Sunday.

The evacuees were en route to Djibouti and included 45 Russians, 18 Americans, five British nationals, 159 Yemenis and citizens of former Soviet states and the Middle East.

Coalition Air Strike, Clashes Kill 27 in Yemen

A Saudi-led air strike hit a base in central Yemen killing 15 rebels on Sunday as 12 people died in overnight fighting in main southern city Aden, medical and security sources said.

The pre-dawn strike hit Camp 22 in Al-Dhahra in the south of Taez province and also wounded eight Huthi Shiite rebels or allied troops, a medic at Al-Thawra hospital said.

Saudi Sacks Health Minister

Saudi King Salman has sacked health minister Ahmed al-Khatib and appointed a caretaker to carry out his duties, the official Saudi Press Agency said in a terse statement Saturday.

SPA did not give a reason for the sacking but said that the king issued a decree to appoint Minister of State Mohammed al-Sheikh as acting health minister.

Hizbullah denied on Saturday media reports that any of its members had been killed in Yemen where a Saudi-led coalition is stepping up air raids on allies of Iran-backed rebels.

“The Saudi Asharq al-Awsat daily and some Saudi and Lebanese news outlets have claimed that a Hizbullah member had been martyred in Yemen,” said the party's press office in a statement.
