Rebel Rockets Kill 14 Civilians in Yemen City

Iran-backed rebels in Yemen fired rockets into a residential district of Taez, killing 14 civilians, mostly women and children, officials said Monday, as battles raged for control of the key city.

The bodies of those killed, including seven women and four children, were taken overnight to the morgue at a public hospital in Taez, said the medical officials.

A Saudi policeman was wounded when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a patrol in the Red Sea city of Jeddah before escaping in their vehicle, state media said Monday.

The shooting occurred on Sunday night, and the wounded patrol commander was in stable condition, the official SPA news agency reported, citing a police statement.

Saudi Helicopter Crash Kills Two on Yemen Border

A helicopter from the Saudi-led forces battling anti-government fighters in Yemen crashed along the Saudi border, killing the two pilots, the coalition said Saturday.

"The two pilots fell as martyrs when their aircraft crashed while they were defending the borders of Saudi Arabia from these aggressors," the coalition said in a statement published by the official SPA news agency.

A Saudi-led coalition air strike killed 13 teaching staff and four children in northern Yemen, in a raid apparently targeting Shiite rebels, medics and witnesses said Thursday.

UNICEF condemned what it called Tuesday's "senseless bloodshed" in Amran province that it said killed 17 civilians and also injured 20 other people.

Saudi Executes Chadian Qaida Militants for Murder of Frenchman

Saudi authorities executed two alleged Chadian militants Thursday for murdering a French engineer in the Red Sea city of Jeddah 11 years ago, the interior ministry said.

Isa Barkaj and Isaac Shakila were convicted of shooting Laurent Barbot, a technical assistant for French electronics group Thales, on September 26, 2004, said a statement published by the official SPA news agency.

Saudi Arabia on Wednesday executed a Yemeni convicted of shooting dead a security officer who was trying to arrest him in the southern Jazan region, the interior ministry said.

UAE Condemns Rebel 'Occupation' of Yemen Embassy

The United Arab Emirates condemned the "occupation" of its embassy in Sanaa by Yemen's Iran-backed Huthi rebels, the foreign ministry said in a statement demanding their immediate exit from the compound.

The embassy takeover comes as Yemeni loyalists backed by the UAE and Saudi Arabia continue advances against rebels in several southern provinces as well as in third city Taez, seen as a gateway to the rebel-held capital.

More than 80 Dead in 24 Hours of Fighting for Key Yemen City

Heavy fighting between government loyalists and rebels for Yemen's third city Taez has left more than 80 people dead in the past 24 hours, military sources said on Monday.

The dead bodies of 50 Shiite Huthi rebels and allied troops were retrieved from the city on Monday, the sources in Taez said, adding that 31 pro-government fighters were also killed.

Saudi Executes Three Sri Lankans, Egyptian

Saudi Arabia on Monday executed three Sri Lankans found guilty of robbing and killing a citizen as well as an Egyptian convicted of murder in a separate case, the interior ministry said.

The four deaths bring to 120 the number of executions this year in the kingdom, compared with 87 for the whole of 2014, according to Agence France Presse tallies.
