Lebanese Force leader Samir Geagea slammed on Thursday Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah over his latest speech, describing his party's dialogue with the Free Patriotic Movement as Fruitful.

“Lebanon has no interest in verbally assaulting Saudi Arabia or the Arab coalition,” Geagea said at a press conference held in Maarab.

Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun met with Lebanese forces official Melhem Riachi to hand him his comments on the final draft of the "declaration of intent" as dialogue between the Christian rivals is advancing at steady pace.

“We will later on announce new practical steps,” Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan said in comments published in al-Joumhouria newspaper on Saturday.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea hailed the Saudi-led offensive against the Shiite Huthi rebels in Yemen, describing it as a “move to protect legitimacy.”

“No one would have preferred a military intervention in Yemen, but without it chaos would have spread, which will lead to further proliferation of al-Qaida basis in the region,” Geagea said in comments published in al-Mustaqbal newspaper on Friday.

A meeting is expected to be held on Tuesday between Lebanese Forces official Melhem Riachi and Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun to continue the ongoing discussions over the “declaration of intent” between the two parties.

According to al-Mustaqbal newspaper published on Monday, the meeting will tackle the document of principles and set the second stage of the dialogue between the two Christian parties.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stressed on Sunday that Hizbullah is the only factor at this point obstructing the rise of the state, noting that there is no enmity with the party but mere political rivalry.

"We only oppose Hizbullah's political stance... the party has foreign ties that disagree with our own principles regarding Lebanon... our relationship is a political rift between two political projects," Geagea said in an interview on Youtube.

A meeting was held between Free Patriotic Movement MP Ibrahim Kanaan and Lebanese Forces official Melhem Riachi to discuss the “final touches” on the “declaration of intent” paper between the two parties, al-Mustaqbal newspaper reported on Wednesday.

The two officials added an 18th article to the document of principles during the meeting, which was held on Tuesday night.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stated on Friday that the situation of Christians in the region is “very difficult.”

He said via Twitter: “The Christians should stop their weeping and hold on to their land.”

Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh announced Thursday that he will not endorse any president elected as a result of an agreement between Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Michel Aoun and Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, whose parties are currently engaged in unprecedented talks.

“I have remarks over the way Aoun is managing the presidential battle because one must differentiate between openness towards rivals and seeking a role for rivals in securing his election as president,” said Franjieh in an interview on LBCI television.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea revealed Wednesday that “major progress” has been made regarding the so-called declaration of intent paper that would pave the way for full-throttle dialogue with the Free Patriotic Movement, without setting a date for its release.

“The person who can resolve the presidential deadlock is (FPM chief) General (Michel) Aoun. He is the only one who can change the picture and he must take a decision and end the obstruction of elections,” said Geagea in an interview on MTV.

Speaker Nabih Berri postponed anew a parliamentary session set to elect a new head of state after he expressed pessimism over the near end of the crisis.

The 20th session was adjourned to April 2 over lack of quorum.
