Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas withdrew his top representative to the United States Tuesday, the foreign ministry announced, a day after the U.S. moved its Israeli embassy to Jerusalem.

A Bahrain court Tuesday sentenced 115 Bahrainis to jail terms ranging from three years to life and stripped them of their nationality for forming an Iran-linked "terrorist" group, the public prosecutor said.

Britain on Tuesday called for an "independent investigation" into the violence on the Israel-Gaza border that left 60 people dead, after the United States blocked a U.N. Security Council statement calling for a probe.

Air strikes against Syrian rebels have gone up 150 percent since Russia intervened in the conflict in 2015, helping the regime triple the territory under its control, a report published on Tuesday showed.

The analysis by IHS Jane's Terrorism and Insurgency Center (JTIC) also found that just 14 percent of the strikes were against the Islamic State group.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday for accusing Israel of "state terror" and "genocide" after troops killed dozens of Gazans in border clashes.

"Erdogan is one of the biggest supporters of Hamas, so there's no doubt he's an expert on terror and slaughter," Netanyahu said in a Hebrew-language Twitter post.

Turkey on Tuesday told the Israeli ambassador to temporarily leave the country in protest at the killing of dozens of Palestinians by Israeli troops on the Gaza border, a foreign ministry official said.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas went to hospital on Tuesday to undergo "minor surgery" on his ear, official media reported.

Palestinians were gathering Tuesday for fresh protests along the Gaza border, a day after Israeli forces killed dozens there as the U.S. embassy opened in Jerusalem on what was the conflict's bloodiest day in years.

Iran said on Tuesday that Israeli officials should be tried as war criminals over the "brutal massacre" of Gazan protesters the previous day. 

China on Tuesday called for restraint, "especially" from Israel, after 59 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces during clashes and protests along the Gaza border against the US embassy opening in Jerusalem.

"China is seriously concerned about the large number of casualties caused by the violent conflict in the Gaza border," foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang told a regular press briefing.
