Loyalty to Resistance Slams 'Repression' in Bahrain, Urges Release of Marzooq

Hizbullah's Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc on Wednesday called for the release of a top Bahraini opposition leader, stressing that his detention by the kingdom's authorities is “totally at odds with the peaceful nature of the popular protest movement.”

“Despite the stark condemnations that have been voiced by all the Arab and international rights groups and humanitarian organizations against the Bahraini authorities' detention of Mr. Khalil al-Marzooq -- the resigned first deputy speaker of parliament and the political aide of the secretary general of the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society – these authorities seem to be determined to continue their repression and violence against this esteemed legal figure,” said a statement issued by the bloc.

Hale: U.S. Aid Helps Army Fulfill its Duty as Lebanon’s Sole Legitimate Defense Force

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale highlighted on Wednesday the additional U.S. assistance to Lebanon for both the humanitarian and security challenges that Lebanon faces that was announced by President Barack Obama on Tuesday.

He said after holding talks with caretaker Information Minister Walid al-Daouq: “This aid helps the Lebanese army fulfill its mandate as Lebanon’s sole legitimate defense force and implement outstanding U.N. Security Council resolutions, such as 1701 and 1559.”

Suleiman Laments Burden of Syria Refugees Taking on 'Existential Dimension'

U.S. Approves $8.7M in Support of LAF, $47M in Humanitarian Aid

The United States has approved $8.7 million in military assistance focused on increasing the Lebanese Armed Forces’ ability to "monitor, secure, and protect Lebanon’s borders against terrorist threats and the illicit transfer of goods," the White House announced on Tuesday.

The U.S. also donated more than $74 million to help Lebanon cope with the growing refugee crisis.
