Hezbollah's second-in-command warned on Saturday that an all-out war by Israel aimed at returning 100,000 displaced people to their homes in areas near the Lebanon border would displace "hundreds of thousands" more.

Sheikh Naim Qassem, number two in the Iran-backed Lebanese group, was speaking after Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Israel was determined to restore security to its northern front.

Hezbollah said Saturday that it fired dozens of Katyusha rockets at an Israeli artillery and precision missile base in Yiftah Elifelet northwest of Lake Tiberias, deep in northern Israel.

U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein will soon visit Tel Aviv as well as Lebanon, al-Jadeed television quoted sources as saying.

Hezbollah targeted Friday military positions in northern Israel and in the occupied Shebaa and Kfarshouba regions with suicide drones and other weapons while Israeli warplanes raided twice the southern town of Bint Jbeil.

The jets targeted early Friday a house and later the al-Wadi region in Bint Jbeil, causing no casualties, the National News agency said. Later in the day, artillery shelled the southern border town of Kfarshouba.

Hezbollah’s response to the assassination of its military chief Fouad Shukur killed 22 and wounded 74 others from Israel’s Unit 8200 intelligence department, the pro-Hezbollah al-Mayadeen TV quoted “credible European security sources” as saying.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea has accused Hezbollah of “attempting to promote the idea that it would seize control of the various joints of the state in return for it (Hezbollah) offering concessions in the South.”

The leader of the Palestinian Hamas group thanked Lebanon’s Hezbollah chief for his support in the ongoing war with Israel in a letter released Friday by Hezbollah’s media office.

Yahya Sinwar’s letter came in response to a message sent earlier by Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in which he paid his condolence for the July killing of top Hamas official Ismail Haniyeh during a visit to Iran.

The health ministry said a child was among three people killed in an Israeli strike in the country's south on Thursday, amid ongoing exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah.

Hezbollah has been trading near-daily cross-border fire with Israeli forces since Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, sparking war in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli army said it had carried out two strikes in southern Syria, one of which killed a fighter of Iran-backed Hezbollah.

An air strike hit "the area of Quneitra", killing Hezbollah member Ahmad al-Jabr, while a second strike hit "the area of Al Rafeed" and "struck a terrorist who advanced terror activities against the State of Israel and operated with Iranian cooperation and direction", an army statement said.

The Israeli army announced Thursday that it managed to “rescue and return” an Israeli civilian boat from Lebanon’s territorial waters, without mentioning anything about any coordination with the UNIFIL forces.
