Hezbollah condemns Charlie Hebdo cartoons in France

Hezbollah on Tuesday condemned the cartoons published recently by the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo that mocked Iran's ruling clerics and urged France to punish the publication.

Hezbollah said the offensive caricatures were an "ugly act by the magazine" that targeted Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, revered as the spiritual leader for tens of millions of pious Shiites throughout the world, including in Lebanon.

French investigator into Salameh's case to arrive Monday in Lebanon

The Observatoire Européen pour l’Integrité du Liban said Tuesday that French judge Aude Buresi will arrive Monday in Lebanon, in her second visit to the country.

Depositor fires gunshots at BLOM bank in Sidon

A depositor fired gunshots at the closed door of BLOM Bank in Sidon on Tuesday in an attempt to storm the bank.

Mohammad, a member of the Lebanese Army, clashed with the bank's security guards before firing from his pistol at the bank's door after the bank refused to sell him dollars at the Sayrafa rate, media reports said.

FPM may Tuesday unveil name of its presidential candidate

The Free Patriotic Movement might unveil the name of its presidential candidate on Tuesday.

Report: Mikati preparing for electricity cabinet session

Cabinet will convene but caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati is keen on calling for it when the political climate is calm, his circles said.

The sources told al-Joumhouria newspaper, in remarks published Monday, that Mikati does not want to further complicate the situation and that he will make all the needed calls and consultations in the coming days in order to hold a cabinet session that could only discuss the electricity file.

A list with the names of the Lebanese banking and financial officials who will be questioned in the coming days in Beirut by three European judicial delegations has been leaked to the media.

According to al-Akhbar newspaper, the list has been received by State Prosecutor Ghassan Oueidat.

French judicial delegation to Lebanon to also tackle port file

The upcoming investigations by a French judicial delegation to Lebanon will not be limited to Riad Salameh’s case but will also tackle the Beirut port blast file, media reports said.

“The memos of the European authorities included the names of investigative judges that are not working on the file of the central bank governor, especially the French memo which included the name of the French judge investigating the Beirut port bombing crime, who asked for a January 24 appointment with Attorney General Sabbouh Suleiman, who is tasked by the public prosecution to oversee the file of the port investigations,” al-Akhbar newspaper reported on Monday.

Salameh won't be questioned by European delegations, at least for now

The first European judicial delegation that will question senior Lebanese banking and financial officials will arrive in Beirut on Monday and will be followed by two other delegations over the next 10 days, media reports said.

“Two delegations from Germany and Luxembourg will separately arrive first and will be followed days later by a French delegation,” al-Akhbar newspaper reported Monday.
