Syrian President Bashar Assad and Saudi King Abdullah, who met in Riyadh Sunday, did not reach an agreement on the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, local media reported Tuesday.

Al-Akhbar newspaper, citing Syrian sources, said Riyadh also avoided discussing the arrest warrants issued by Syria against a number of Lebanese officials or pressure on Prime Minister Saad Hariri to modify his position on the STL indictment.

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat has slammed those "who are still theorizing about Lebanon's neutralism under the emblem of keeping it away from axes, despite the fact that Lebanon is at the core of the region and directly and inevitably involved in its issues due to the factors of history and geography."

"The pretentious slogans that speak of Arab solidarity have proven their futility during the latest experience at the Serte (Arab) summit which failed in producing the minimum requirements for confronting the various challenges and difficulties," Jumblat added in his weekly column in his party's mouthpiece Al-Anbaa.

Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Rokn-Abadi revealed on Monday that the possibility of Iran properly equipping the Lebanese army is proposed.

He added after meeting former President Emile Lahoud that the positive results of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadeinjad's visit to Lebanon will soon emerge.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman's visit was not pre-planned, sources close to Speaker Nabih Berri told An-Nahar newspaper.

Those Feltman met were informed of his arrival just hours before his plane touched down in Beirut Sunday, the sources said in remarks published Monday.

Former head of Lebanon's General Security Department Jamil Sayyed has sacked al-Jadid television crew over a question of assets, the television station announced.

It said Sayyed became furious at the end of Sunday's talk show "Usbu fi Sa'a," Arabic for the Week in an Hour, after reporter George Salibi asked him about his property and bank account.

Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah discussed the latest local and regional developments with Druze leader Walid Jumblat Druze.

A statement issued by Hizbullah on Monday said Nasrallah and Jumblat also reviewed efforts to contain crises and challenges facing Lebanon.

Jeffrey Feltman, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, on Sunday arrived in Lebanon on a sudden visit.

Feltman held talks with President Michel Suleiman in Amshit, the president's hometown.

Sources from the Lebanese Forces revealed on Saturday that Prime Minister Saad Hariri and LF leader Samir Geagea's meeting on Friday night focused on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to Lebanon, according to the Central News Agency.

The sources said that the two leaders stressed that "Lebanon will not become linked to any axis and it will stand by Arab consensus on pending issues."

Political quarters have been discussing possible solutions for the crisis in Lebanon based on averting internal strife, which some sides have accused the international community and American administration of promoting, reported the Central News Agency Saturday.

The solution would be supported by sides concerned with the situation in Lebanon, mainly the U.S., Syria, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.

Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun stressed on Friday the importance of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's historic visit to Lebanon.

A statement from Hizbullah's media relations office said on Saturday that the two leaders held a meeting on Friday on current political, regional, and local developments.
