Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov is ready to resign, he said Friday, in an abrupt about-turn after rival politicians claiming leadership positions prepared for a confrontation while Russia pushed security forces to restore order.

Protesters seized Kyrgyzstan's seat of government and freed a jailed former president on Tuesday after demonstrations against an election marred by vote-buying accusations spiralled into violent clashes with police.

Kyrgyzstan's President Almazbek Atambayev on Monday dismissed the police chief of the Central Asian country after the arrests of politicians suspected of plotting a coup.

President Almazbek Atambayev accepted the resignation of interior minister Melis Turgunbayev and replaced him with career policeman Kashkar Dzhunushaliyev, the presidential press service said without giving any reason.

Security services in Kyrgyzstan said Friday that they had arrested three politicians including a former minister on charges of plotting a coup, ahead of an anti-government rally later this month.

Three members of a group called the People's Parliament movement were arrested late Thursday on coup charges in the Central Asian country's capital Bishkek, a spokesman for the GKNB security service told AFP.

Kyrgyzstan said Friday it was in negotiations with Uzbekistan to defuse week-long tensions over disputed territory at the frontier of the two Central Asian states.

The Friday meeting of the countries' border services was called "at the initiative of the Uzbek side", the Kyrgyz border service said, after increased militarization at a disputed section of the border drew concern from a Russia-led security body earlier this week.

Security services in Kyrgyzstan said Thursday they have arrested two members of the opposition on charges of plotting to overthrow the government.

Former politicians Bektur Asanov and Kubanychbek Kadyrov were detained on suspicion of "implementing a conspiracy to seize power by violent means", the Central Asian country's GKNB security service said in a statement.

Security services in ex-Soviet Kyrgyzstan said Friday they had killed two members of what they claim was the cell of an international terror group during a nightime raid in the capital Bishkek.

The Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security (SCNS) refused to name "the international terror group" but said the two dead terror suspects were responsible for "particularly serious crimes" in the Central Asian state.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Saturday to kick off a tour of five of the "'Stans," the former Soviet republics of Central Asia.

Over four days, at official events in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, Kerry will seek to reassure them they have not been abandoned.

Kyrgyzstan's security service said Monday it was investigating a YouTube video urging citizens of the ex-Soviet country to move to the "caliphate" declared by the Islamic State jihadists in Iraq and Syria.

The nine-minute clip titled "Message to the People of Kyrgyzstan," appeared on YouTube on Saturday and was deleted hours later. It was picked up by a Kyrgyz news site known for covering the activities of IS.

Ex-Soviet Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday announced it was tearing up a long-running cooperation agreement with the United States after Washington awarded a rights prize to a jailed ethnic minority campaigner. 

Central Asian Kyrgyzstan and the United States inked a cooperation deal in 1993 and the strategically located nation hosted a key U.S. military base supplying the war effort in Afghanistan until 2014.
