A top U.S. official said on Sunday that Washington has given $100 million in aid to Jordan to help host tens of thousands of Syrians who have fled the unrest back home and taken refuge in the kingdom.

U.S. ambassador to Jordan, E. Jones, said that the U.S. aid will also help Jordan meet its growing energy needs in light of the repeated cut-offs occurring from unstable gas supplies from Egypt.

Attackers on Sunday blew up a gas pipeline in Egypt's Sinai used to export fuel to Israel and Jordan, the 15th such attack since 2011, the official MENA news agency reported.

Witnesses told Agence France Presse they heard a loud explosion and saw flames from the site of the explosion near the northern Sinai town of El-Arish.

Ramadan will begin on Friday in most Arab countries, religious authorities announced, but in Oman and Syria as well as for Iraq's Sunni Muslims and in non-Arab Iran it will start on Saturday.

Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen, as well as Lebanon's Sunni Muslims, were among those to announce a Friday start.

National carrier Royal Jordanian (RJ) said on Thursday it has suspended flights to the Syrian capital Damascus and the northern city of Aleppo over the unrest in the neighboring country.

"Flights to Damascus and Aleppo have been suspended because of a sharp slump in passenger traffic following developments in Syria in the past two days," state-run Petra news agency quoted RJ as saying.

Syrian refugees in Jordan urged British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Tuesday to "get rid of" Syrian President Bashar Assad, as the official visited this Jordanian border town.

"We do not want food or water, we do not want money. We just want you to get rid of Bashar," some of them chanted as Hague and Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh toured Ramtha's Bashabsheh housing complex, a military-guarded compound that houses around 1,000 Syrian refugees.

Dialogue is no longer a solution to ending the slaughter in Syria and the United Nations' Security Council must step in, Jordan's Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh said in the Czech capital Prague Monday.

"It's impossible to resolve the situation in Syria through a dialogue today," Tarawneh said following talks with Czech counterpart Petr Necas.

Iran's armed forces chief accused Turkey and Jordan of allowing rebel fighters into Syria and urged them to seal off their borders, ISNA news agency reported on Friday.

"It is the duty of Syria's Muslim neighbors to refrain from backing the terrorists," armed forces chief of staff General Hassan Firouzabadi was quoted as saying.

Around 1,500 Jordanians, mostly Islamists, marched on Friday to reject a controversial electoral law, a day after the Muslim Brotherhood decided to boycott early polls expected later this year.

"We demand a democratic electoral law. We want to change the constitution and fight corruption," read a banner carried by the protesters in central Amman.

Israeli aid groups are working with Western organizations to provide humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees in Turkey and Jordan, MP Ayoob Kara told Agence France Presse on Thursday.

A live television talk show in Jordan produced a torrent of insults, a shoe flying across the studio and a pistol being whipped out, as the host desperately tried to keep two rival politicians apart.

The show on private satellite channel Jo Sat, aired on Friday, started to spin out of control after MP Mohammad Shawabka accused former deputy Mansur Murad of working as a spy for the Syrian regime.
