The Islamist movement Hamas on Thursday praised a young Palestinian it says was a member who carried out a Jerusalem bus bombing earlier this week that wounded 20 people.

The 19-year-old died on Wednesday, two days after an explosive device blew up on a bus in southern Jerusalem and sparked a fire.

Israel has seen "unprecedented" intelligence cooperation with Egypt and Jordan as the countries' fight against the Islamic State group nudge them to work together more closely, Israel's deputy military chief said Wednesday.

Major General Yair Golan said "there is a strong feeling in the region... that we have to put aside past animosities and concentrate on mutual interests and working together" to deal with the jihadist threat.

Israeli authorities on Tuesday were investigating a Jerusalem bus bombing that wounded 21 people and raised fears of a sharp escalation in violence, while police planned tightened security for the Jewish Passover holiday.

A Swedish cabinet minister of Turkish origin who compared Israel to Nazi Germany and was photographed with Turkish ultra-nationalists resigned on Monday, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven announced.

"Mehmet Kaplan has submitted his resignation and I have accepted it," Lofven told reporters, nonetheless praising the outgoing housing minister's "humanistic and democratic values."

An Israeli soldier caught on video shooting a wounded Palestinian assailant in the head was charged with manslaughter on Monday in a case that has sparked widespread controversy.

Syria's envoy to the United Nations on Monday denounced as "provocative" an unprecedented Israeli cabinet meeting held in the Golan Heights, which the Jewish state annexed decades ago.

"It is an irresponsible provocation committed by Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of the Israeli occupation force," Bashar al-Jaafari said of Sunday's cabinet meeting, which was the first ever to be held in the territory seized from Syria in 1967.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Sunday that the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights would "forever" remain in his country's hands as his cabinet held its first meeting in the territory.

"The Golan Heights will remain in the hands of Israel forever," Netanyahu said at the start of the cabinet meeting, in comments broadcast on public radio.

A Palestinian armed with an axe attacked an Israeli soldier in the occupied West Bank and was shot dead on Thursday, the Israeli army said, ending a three-week lull in deadly incidents.

The soldier was lightly wounded in the attack, which occurred near the Al-Arroub refugee camp between Hebron and Bethlehem.

Israeli forces raided a money changer in the Palestinian political capital Ramallah early on Thursday, blowing up a safe and sparking a fire, which led to minor clashes, the army and witnesses said.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said the pre-dawn raid was to "confiscate terror funds" held in the shop in the occupied West Bank.

Four Jewish Israelis have been arrested for alleged anti-Palestinian vandalism in the occupied West Bank, Israeli police said Tuesday.

The four suspects, including two teenagers aged 16 and 17, are suspected of having targeted Palestinian property for political reasons, though further details on the alleged crimes were not released.
