Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun agreed during their meeting on Thursday on three central issues that will emphasize understanding between the two sides, reported the pan-Arab daily Asharq al-Awsat on Saturday.

Sources from the March 8 camp told the daily that “Aoun was tasked once again with controlling the presidential elections file.”

Hizbullah and al-Mustaqbal movement held their tenth dialogue session on Tuesday and discussed “the continuation of the security measures” in all regions, as the verbal escalation continued between the two parties over the Saudi-led operation in Yemen.

“The conferees tackled the continuation of the security measures in all regions in order to immunize the domestic situation, in addition to other issues that are of concern to the Lebanese,” the two parties said in a joint statement after the talks in Ain al-Tineh.

Al-Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc announced Tuesday that al-Mustaqbal movement's dialogue with Hizbullah will continue despite “lack of progress” on several topics, as it condemned the burial of a Huthi spiritual leader in Beirut's southern suburbs.

“The ongoing dialogue with Hizbullah represents a necessity amid these circumstances, despite the major discrepancy between the ambitions and the situation on the ground, and the fact this dialogue has reached a state of stalling and lack of progress on several issues,” said the bloc in a statement issued after its weekly meeting.

The U.N.-backed Special Tribunal for Lebanon announced Monday that it has appointed Lebanese national Wajed Ramadan as its new spokesperson, succeeding the Egyptian Canadian Marten Youssef.

“Ramadan joined the tribunal in September 2009 and established the STL’s Outreach Office in Lebanon,” the court said in statement.

Hizbullah announced Sunday that it does not want a president who would be a “front for foreign countries,” as it stressed that dialogue will continue with al-Mustaqbal movement despite the “deep differences.”

“We want the election of a president for Lebanon and all Lebanese, a president who would shoulder his national responsibilities and who would not be a front for any side or state or a puppet for implementing the plots of others,” head of Hizbullah juristic council Sheikh Mohammed Yazbek said at a memorial service in Bouday.

Nader Hariri, the adviser of the Mustaqbal Movement leader Saad Hariri, reportedly contacted Speaker Nabih Berri's aide Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil to confirm that dialogue with Hizbullah will not be suspended.

According to the pan-Arab newspaper al-Hayat published on Saturday, Khalil briefed Berri on the telephone conversation with Hariri as the speaker was contacting Hizbullah's leadership to tackle the tension between the two parties.

Head of Hizbullah's Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Mohammed Raad criticized on Thursday Mustaqbal Movement leader MP Saad Hariri's positions on the Saudi-led airstrikes on Yemen, saying that linking Iran to the developments in Yemen and Lebanon are a “major mistake.”

He said in a statement: “Only ignorants and cowards remain silent over Saudi Arabia's genocide in Yemen.”

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat warned Tuesday of possible “dangerous repercussions” that may result from the anti-Saudi remarks of some Lebanese leaders.

“The magnitude and extent of the statements we heard in Lebanon were not even voiced by the Islamic Republic of Iran itself,” said Jumblat in his weekly editorial in the PSP-affiliated al-Anbaa website.

Hizbullah on Sunday lashed out anew at “those who don't want dialogue” between the party and al-Mustaqbal movement, blasting them as “instigators and rabble-rousers," as it called for speeding up efforts aimed at securing the election of a new president.

“We know that dialogue can only succeed if both parties want it and this is the case now. Some voices have rejected dialogue and they have become well-known,” Hizbullah deputy chief Sheikh Naim Qassem said.

Hizbullah on Thursday called for an immediate end to what it described as the “Saudi-American aggression” against Yemen, a day before a scheduled speech by party chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

"Hizbullah strongly condemns the Saudi-American aggression that targets the brotherly people of Yemen, its national army and its vital institutions," a statement from the group said.
