A resident of the Bekaa town of Taalabaya was briefly kidnapped on Sunday during unrest that erupted following a deadly incident in the barren mountains of Ras Baalbek in the Bekaa.

The abductee Mohannad Mehieddine has been released after he was kidnapped at a checkpoint set up by gunmen in the town of al-Labweh in the wake of the shooting death of the four young men between al-Qaa and Hermel, state-run National News Agency reported.

Around eight rockets and mortar rounds from Syria slammed into the northeastern region of Hermel on Tuesday -- some of them hitting residential neighborhoods -- leaving one person dead.

The state-run National News Agency said the rocket salvo left several people slightly injured.

Several people were injured on Tuesday in two cross-border rocket attacks in the northeastern town of Hermel, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said seven rockets landed in Hermel and its outskirts a day after a girl was killed in a similar incident.

A girl was killed and another was wounded when four rockets fired from Syrian territory hit residential neighborhoods in the Bekaa city of Hermel on Monday, state-run National News Agency reported.

“Loulou Awwad, 17, was martyred and another woman from the same family was wounded by the rockets that targeted residential neighborhoods in Hermel,” NNA said.

Several rockets landed in and around Lebanon’s northeastern town of Hermel from Syria as Syrian troops backed by Hizbullah fighters launched an assault on the rebel-held central town of Qusayr.

The state-run National News Agency said around eight Grad rockets hit different areas of Hermel.

Four rockets fired from Syrian territory hit the outskirts of the Bekaa town of Hermel and the neighboring town of al-Qasr on Sunday, as a media report said the Bekaa border area of Masharii al-Qaa could be source of rocket fire.

Lebanon's National News Agency said two rockets landed near the Imam Sadr Educational Foundation as the Beirut-based, pan-Arab television al-Mayadeen said the salvo was fired from the positions of Syrian rebels in the Homs area of Qusayr.

Two rockets launched from Syrian territories hit on Saturday al-Shawagheer region in Hermel, state-run National News Agency reported.

According to the news agency, the rockets only caused material damage.

Hizbullah commander Hussein Habib's family is still mourning his death in Syria, where he fought alongside regime soldiers. But they say they are ready to offer another son up as a "martyr".

In their town of Baalbek and other Hizbullah strongholds in eastern Lebanon, it's no longer a secret that the group's members are crossing the border to bolster the ranks of government troops battling rebels.

Fierce clashes pitted Syrian rebels against troops and fighters loyal to Hizbullah in several villages near Qusayr on the border with Lebanon on Tuesday, a watchdog said.

Meanwhile, a military source told AFP the army expects to seize the town of Qusayr, a rebel stronghold, "within days."

Two Grad rockets fired from Syrian territories on Tuesday exploded on the outskirts of Lebanon's Hermel town district, causing material damage only.

According to the state-run National News Agency, one of the rockets landed in al-Maali area, damaging and under construction building.
