A radical Islamic preacher has been arrested in Norway after praising last month's deadly attack on the Charlie Hebdo satirical weekly in Paris, police said Friday.

The Iraqi Kurd preacher known as Mullah Krekar said in a television interview broadcast on Wednesday that "those who draw caricatures of Mohammed must die".

French President Francois Hollande met survivors of one of the world's strongest typhoons in a remote Philippine coastal town on Friday, seeking to sound a global alarm on climate change ahead of a crucial U.N. summit.

Hollande is on a two-day trip to the Southeast Asian archipelago, regarded as a frontline state in the struggle against global warming, as part of his campaign to build diplomatic momentum ahead of the Paris summit in December.

The father of a French woman taken hostage in Yemen on Thursday called on her kidnappers "to show their humanity" and release her free along with the Yemenite woman taken at the same time.

"We face up to this challenge with confidence, and we are staying close to the French authorities with whom we are in permanent contact and who we know are determined to see our daughter set free," Jean-Noel Prime said in a statement sent to Agence France-Presse.

French President Francois Hollande called Thursday for a climate change "alliance" with the Philippines that could spur similar co-operation between rich and poor nations at a crucial U.N. summit.

Hollande made the appeal shortly after landing in the Philippines with two of France's leading actresses for a trip aimed primarily at mobilising global action in the fight against global warming.

The French judiciary on Thursday dismissed a ninth parole request submitted by detained leftist Lebanese militant Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, who has been in jail since 30 years.

At a protest outside the French embassy in Beirut, a spokesman for the International Campaign for the Release of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah said the activists were notified by the prisoner's lawyer that the parole was rejected.

France's president and prime minister on Thursday slammed a decision by three lawmakers to meet with Syria's Bashar Assad, who they described as a "butcher" and "dictator."

A multi-party group of four lawmakers made a trip to Syrian capital Damascus on Wednesday and met with senior ministers. Three of them -- excluding one from the ruling Socialist party -- met with Assad.

One of three Al-Jazeera journalists arrested for flying a drone in Paris will appear in court next week after pleading guilty, a judicial source said on Thursday.

The other two television journalists have been freed. All three were arrested on Wednesday for flying a drone in the Bois de Boulogne park on the western edge of the French capital, for the purposes of a television report.

The two-day trip, the first by a French president to the Philippines, is part of Hollande's campaign to build diplomatic momentum ahead of the United Nations event that France will host in December. 

Efforts intensified Wednesday to find a French woman and her Yemeni interpreter kidnapped in crisis-hit Yemen, with relatives reaching out to tribal chiefs and the Shiite militia in control of the capital.

On the political front, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) reiterated its support for Yemen's beleaguered president, as militiamen opened fire to disperse thousands of his backers demonstrating in Sanaa.

Three journalists for TV station Al-Jazeera were arrested in Paris on Wednesday after flying a drone from a park on the edge of the city, a judicial source said.

"The first was piloting the drone, the second was filming and the third was watching," said the source.
