Denmark and Sweden on Wednesday extended their border controls until November to curb the tide of migrants into their nations, saying the European Union still lacked security at its external borders.

Denmark received more than 21,000 asylum applications in 2015, a 44 percent jump from 2014 but significantly less than its northern neighbor Sweden, which registered 163,000 applications in the same year.

Danish Govt. Recommends F-35s for Combat Jet Order

Denmark Extends ID Controls on German Border

Denmark on Monday extended random identification checks along the German border until June 2, saying they were needed to deter "an extraordinarily large number of refugees and migrants" from entering the country.

Danish Teen Accused of Planning School Bomb Attacks

A 16-year-old Danish girl arrested in January was planning to carry out bomb attacks against two schools, one of which was Jewish, Danish police said on Tuesday.

The girl was allegedly helped by a 24-year-old man who Danish media said had been fighting in Syria, though it was not clear for which side, according to the preliminary charges presented in a court in the town of Holbaek, 70 kilometers (45 miles) west of Copenhagen.

Denmark Ready to Send F-16s, Troops to Fight IS in Syria, Iraq

Denmark is ready to send F-16 fighter jets and 400 troops to Iraq and Syria to fight the Islamic State group, Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said Friday.

A majority of political parties in parliament's foreign affairs committee expressed support Friday for the government's proposal, and "the government will on the basis of today's meeting submit a bill to a parliamentary vote to strengthen the campaign against IS," a statement from the prime minister's office said.
