The head of Denmark's intelligence agency on Wednesday stepped down as an investigation criticized parts of the police response to February's deadly twin attacks in Copenhagen.

"After careful consideration, I have agreed with the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Justice and the National Commissioner of Police that I will now undertake new tasks to develop Danish police," Jens Madsen of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service (PET) said in a statement.

A Danish group on Monday vowed to expand an advertising campaign urging people to boycott products from Israeli settlements after the ads were dropped from Copenhagen buses.

"It's a clear attempt to deny us our freedom of speech," Fathi al-Abed, chairman of the Danish Palestinian Friendship Association, told AFP after bus operator Movia last week pulled the campaign.

The number of Europeans fighting with jihadist groups in Syria could exceed 6,000, a top EU official told a French newspaper Monday.

"At the European level, we estimate that 5,000-6,000 individuals have left for Syria," EU Justice Commissioner Vera Jouriva told Le Figaro in an interview, adding the true number was likely to be far higher due to the difficulty of tracking foreign fighters in the conflict.

Five men charged with helping the gunman behind last month's deadly attacks in Copenhagen have been remanded in custody for another four weeks, police said on Thursday.

"The five suspects in connection with the shootings... will remain in custody," Copenhagen police wrote on Twitter.

Copenhagen police said on Friday they had arrested a fifth man suspected of being an accomplice of gunman Omar El-Hussein who killed two people in deadly twin attacks last month.

The man was "suspected of complicity in the perpetrator's actions on February 14 and 15," police said in a statement.

Two groups linked to criminal gangs opened fire in a shopping mall in suburban Copenhagen on Wednesday, injuring three people, police said.

"Everything indicates that two gang-related groups have clashed inside the shopping center," Copenhagen police said in a statement.

Danish police on Tuesday searched eight Copenhagen apartments as part of an ongoing investigation into the February 14-15 attacks that left two people dead.

"We are still in the process of mapping the movements of the perpetrator and the accomplices and this morning's raids should be seen in light of this," police said in a statement.

Danish judicial authorities on Saturday charged a third alleged accomplice in Copenhagen's twin shootings this month, accusing him of helping the attacker obtain a bulletproof vest and a knife, a court spokesman said.

The defendant, a slender 18-year-old in khakis and a red sports jacket, denied the charges before his custody hearing held behind closed doors, news agency Ritzau reported.

Danish police said they arrested Friday a third alleged accomplice in the Copenhagen shootings who was identified by the media as the gunman's brother.

The suspect is "charged with complicity in the perpetrator's actions" and will appear before a judge on Saturday for a custody hearing, police said in a statement.
