A clash erupted on Sunday in the capital Beirut between anti-Syrian regime protesters and demonstrators loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, MTV reported.

The two sides used batons and rocks in the confrontation that broke out in the vicinity of the Kuwaiti embassy in Beirut, MTV added.

A minister close to Jumblat told al-Liwaa daily published Saturday that Jumblat, through his meetings in Lebanon and abroad, is seeking to revive contacts between al-Mustaqbal as the main representative of Sunnis in Lebanon and both Amal and Hizbullah.

Hof Reportedly in Beirut to Prevent Rise of Maritime Shebaa Farms, U.S. Embassy Denies

U.S. official Frederic Hof is making routine visits to Beirut to follow up the dispute between Lebanon and Israel on their maritime borders, Western diplomatic sources in Beirut said Friday.

The sources told As Safir daily that Hof is visiting Lebanon along with cartographers in an expression of Washington’s interest in solving the feud over oil and natural fields and setting the stage for possible U.S. investments in the sector in the future.

Firefighters Manage to Douse Huge Plastics Depot Blaze in Ouzai

Civil defense firefighters managed to extinguish a huge blaze that broke out Sunday at a large plastics depot in the Beirut southern suburb of Ouzai, near the Beirut Rafik Hariri International Airport, state-run National News Agency reported.

“The fire caused material damage only and the office of the state prosecutor has asked sworn experts to inspect the accident’s site on Monday and provide it with a report in order to take the relevant measures,” NNA added.

Report: Jumblat Buying Land Plots in Beirut

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblat has reportedly bought a 20,000-square-meter land parcel near the Safa stadium in Beirut for 10 million dollars.

Al-Akhbar daily said Friday that Jumblat is negotiating with the owners of shacks on the land to vacate their homes in return for financial compensation.
