Yerevan Says Brazzaville Crash Plane Was Armenian

A cargo plane that crashed at Brazzaville airport killing at least 27 people belonged to the Armenian freight specialist airline Rij Airways, the foreign ministry in Yerevan said Saturday.

The plane, carrying seven crew members, crashed as it tried to land in a storm on Friday.

Report: March 14 MPs to Attend Berri Luncheon Banquet in Armenian President's Honor

Lawmakers from the Mustaqbal bloc and March 14-led opposition will attend the luncheon banquet thrown by Speaker Nabih Berri in honor of Armenian President Serzh Sargysyan on Tuesday, reported the daily An Nahar on Sunday.

It added that Mustaqbal bloc head MP Fouad Saniora will not be able to attend the banquet because he will be traveling.

Berri Cancels Parliamentary Session Set to Welcome Armenian President

Speaker Nabih Berri cancelled on Friday a parliamentary session scheduled for next week, during which Armenian President Serzh Sargysyan was planned to address MPs.

“As several ministers and fellow lawmakers are attending the ceremony of appointing Maronite Patriarch Beshara al-Rahi as a cardinal at the Vatican, the session on November 27 has been cancelled,” Berri said in a statement.

Turkey Forces Armenian Plane Bound for Syria to Land in Erzurum

An Armenian plane carrying humanitarian aid for Syria was forced to land in Turkey on Thursday for an inspection of its cargo, the Anatolia news agency reported.

The cargo plane landed at Erzurum airport in eastern Turkey where teams of police and troops with sniffer dogs began their searches, it said.

Armenian Soldier Killed at Azerbaijani Border

Azerbaijani forces killed an Armenian soldier on Tuesday on the border between the enemy ex-Soviet states, the Defense Ministry in Yerevan said.

"Serviceman Vaghinak Baghdasarian was killed by enemy fire," a brief Defense Ministry statement said without giving further details.

An Azerbaijani soldier who was shot by an Armenian sniper in the ex-Soviet state's remote Nakhchivan region in July has died in hospital, the defense ministry in Baku said Saturday.

The ministry said the soldier, whom it named as Rabbi Jafarov, died late Friday.

Bitter enemies Azerbaijan and Armenia traded accusations on Friday amid growing international criticism of Baku's pardoning of an extradited Azerbaijani soldier who had hacked an Armenian to death.

Ramil Safarov was pardoned, promoted and financially rewarded after being extradited to Azerbaijan from Hungary, where he had been serving a life sentence for killing the Armenian soldier with an ax during a NATO training session in 2004.
