The foreign ministry has sent a letter to the Syrian embassy in Beirut upon the request of President Michel Suleiman, the state-run National News Agency reported Wednesday.

While NNA did not specify the nature of the letter sent on Monday, media reports said it included the recent request made by Suleiman to hand the ministry copies of security reports on the latest Syrian airstrikes on Lebanese territories.

Syrian Ambassador Ali Abdul Karim Ali denied on Tuesday that there was a change in the balance of power after the resignation of the cabinet that was led by Hizbullah.

Following a visit to former Prime Minister Salim Hoss at his office in the Beirut neighborhood of Aisha Bakkar, Ali said: “We don't see any change in the balance of power.”

Syria's Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali stated on Saturday that he was not summoned by Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour on the backdrop of Friday's Syrian assault against Lebanese territories, assuring that his country is “the party negatively affected by the incident”.

“I have answered this question before. There is an ongoing cooperation between the two states,” Ali firmly said after meeting with FM Mansour.

Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour said Lebanon and Syria had no interest in turning their border area into a scene of tension as a Lebanese man was injured from renewed cross-border shelling.

“Lebanon has absolutely no interest in turning Lebanese territories to a path or base to any military action,” Mansour, who is accompanying President Michel Suleiman in his African tour, told al-Joumhouria daily published Saturday.

Syria on Thursday warned that its forces would fire into Lebanon if "terrorist gangs" continued to infiltrate the country, in a letter of protest to Lebanon.

"These past 36 hours, armed terrorist gangs have infiltrated Syrian territory in large numbers from Lebanon," the Syrian foreign ministry said in the letter carried by Syria's news agency SANA.

Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali stressed on Saturday that the Syrian Army is responding to the sources of fire along the Lebanese border to preserve the country's stability.

“The Syrian territories are attacked by gunmen, from various nationalities, who are entering Lebanon and violating the sovereignty of Lebanon and Syria,” Ali said after talks with Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour at the Bustros Palace.

Phalange Party MP Sami Gemayel lashed out on Friday at Lebanese authorities for not suspending diplomatic ties with the neighboring country Syria after the judiciary demanded the death penalty for a Syrian security official.

Gemayel wondered how the Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon, Ali Abdul Karim Ali, wasn't expelled or summoned.

Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali slammed on Monday reports saying that Hizbullah is aiding Syrian forces in the border town of Qusayr.

“The Lebanese residing in Syrian territories are directly concerned with confronting the gunmen who attack them,” Ali told reporters after holding talks with Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour at the Bustros Palace.

Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali announced on Saturday that President Bashar Assad is setting up a plan to initiate a national dialogue between all factions of the country, expressing that Syria will always be the safest place for its people.

“Syria is the only country that cares for preserving its people's dignity,” Ali said after meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri.

Syrian Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdul Karim Ali stressed on Thursday that his embassy is committed to the Lebanese diplomatic norms, urging the end of alleged arms smuggling to Damascus for having negative impact on the bilateral ties between the two countries.

“Those who are calling for my expulsion have hidden motives that has nothing to do with constitution, the brother-ties between the two countries nor with the behavior of our mission,” Ali told reporters at Bustros Palace after holding talks with Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour.
