Beirut airport customs officials thwarted an attempt to smuggle seven kilograms of cocaine to Lebanon, the state-run National News Agency reported on Monday.

NNA said that a 24-year-old Lebanese man was carrying the drugs after arriving from Muscat aboard a Oman Air flight when he drew the suspicion of the officials.

However, the agency did not specify how the man identified by his initials as M.D. was trying to smuggle the cocaine.

Last month, customs officials at Rafik Hariri international airport arrested two Australians who were trying to smuggle cocaine into their country.

They were carrying the drugs in boxes of sweets.
