Jordan Demonstrators Salute Egypt's Morsi

Jordanian pro-reform demonstrators marched on Friday to salute Islamist Mohamed Morsi, "son of the Brothers," on the eve of his swearing-in as Egypt's first democratically elected civilian president.

"Congratulations to Egypt. The revolt has won," read one banner carried by more than 1,000 opposition Islamists and other members of political parties who marched in central Amman.

"Thousands of greetings for Morsi, son of the brothers," they chanted.

Egypt's first civilian president, and the first elected since an uprising ousted president Hosni Mubarak last year, is to be sworn in Saturday before the Constitutional Court.

The Jordanian demonstrators also rejected recent hikes in commodity prices, demanding sweeping reforms and tougher action against corruption.

Similar protests were held in the northern city of Irbid, as well as Karak, Tafileh and Maan in the south.

Jordan has witnessed regular street protests since January last year demanding sweeping reforms and tough action against corruption.
