Miqati, Bassil Deny American Electricity Offer was Better
إقرأ هذا الخبر بالعربيةSources close to Premier Najib Miqati and Energy Minister Jebran Bassil refuted claims by an American company representative that his offer on the leasing of power-generating vessels would have cost the Lebanese treasury less than the approved proposal of Turkish ships.
The representative of American company Waller Marine-Buildum Ventures, Rudolph Elias, told Akhbar Alyawm news agency on Friday that his offer would have saved the Lebanese treasury 100 million dollars annually.
But Miqati’s sources told As Safir newspaper on Saturday that a ministerial committee tasked with studying the tenders of the vessels, were informed by Elias that he could now lower prices and that he even suggested for Lebanon to buy a ship.
Bassil also said that the committee gave Elias enough time to make a better offer but he refused to do so.
The minister denied that the American offer would have saved the treasury millions of dollars.
The committee agreed on Thursday to lease the ships from the Turkish Karadeniz company after it slashed the original price by 9 percent.
The agreement struck with Karadeniz is expected to be approved by the cabinet next week.
Sources have said that the Turkish firm will send the first ship to Lebanon end of July while the second will be dispatched a few weeks later.
Elias claimed in his remarks to Akhbar Alyawm that Karadeniz ships have previously suffered technical problems.
But Bassil denied, saying an international expert had put the firm at the top of the classification list.
I would like to know how and why the rep had assumed that there is a saving of 100 million dollars on the treasury.
we all know that short term pricing is part of the equation. There are other factors that would set the effective price based on efficiency, productivity and hedging fuel price fluctuation.
Why don't you say the truth for once in your life you liar and low life crook...? There are no bribes to be paid with US companies because US laws scrutinize and forbids such behavior... First it was GE that denied making a bid and now another US company thrown out and prevented from bidding... PM Miqati can't do and won't do anything to further alienate the current political situation which is rapidly deteriorating... So this sorry assed Country and its citizenry will once again pay the cost over and over and the new crooks in power, Aoun and company, will line their pockets with fortunes embezzled as we get closer and closer to going penniless...
Have you done any business with US companies on this level? Talk about scrutiny, tell us about Madoff, and how long he ran his ponzi scheme, while being scrutinized since 1970's. Please spare the lebanese with your speech.
Ahahahahahahahaha. If you'd know anything about politics you wouldn't have said any of that crap. The US might be the most corrupt system after Lebanon. You know, it's funny. You blame M8 for stealing but Lebanon was only in debt when your M14 overlords were in power. What about the missing $11 billion dollars from 2005? The tooth fairy took it?
Shut up and go back to your cave.
To those who commented on my blog......
- The US govt scrutinizes contracts with foreign governments to eliminate bribes. It's the law and they enforce it. The Madoff saga wasn't the same case & the US government was duped by a smart con artist who ultimately paid the price even though the losses to his unsuspecting clients were heavy. Check the facts before you shoot your mouth off and express your hate towards the US... Mr Jesus Christ American! JCAmerican ?
- The late PM Hariri was coerced to pay the Syrian regime, the Assad gang and his "representatives" in Lebanon billions of $$$. He paid billions of $$$ toBerri, Jumblatt, Murr & countless politicians... I was not absolving M14 of any wrongdoing but it makes me sick to see a bunch of hypocrites such as the Aoun gang do the same and pretend to be Christ's disciples... Ya Einstein inta ya inveritas...
people who fired the late georges frem should be hanged cause they are responsible of our blackouts
what kind of a profit margin are they working with to be able to slash the original offer by 9%?
How much does one of these ships cost?
the electricity issue proves how irresponsible the lebanese politicians have been for decades! NO one has ever solved the problem! lebanese should ask themselves why!
they do not think in terms of lebanese welfare and development but in terms of how much it will bring them!
in the 21 first century to see that such a tiny country as lebanon is incapable of solving this, proves how retarded the politicians are and those backing them and praising them!
but i guess lebanese deserve this because they only seek for their little interests but not for the interest of the country....
Let the Turkish company subcontract their scope of work now to the American company and save the Lebanese ppl 100m$???????????
