The Israeli army shot a Palestinian demonstrator in the leg during clashes in the West Bank on Friday, lightly wounding him, an Agence France Presse correspondent and the Israeli military said.

"During a violent and illegal riot which took place today in Nabi Saleh, .22 caliber rounds were used in order to disperse it, while targeting one exceptionally violent rioter," a military spokesman told AFP.

The spokesman said that such rounds are fired only by specially trained soldiers, after exhausting all other means to disperse riots. He noted that Saleh had "hurled rocks at security forces, who responded with .22 caliber rounds targeting the lower part of his legs. A hit was confirmed."

Palestinians hold weekly demonstrations in Nabi Saleh, some 10 kilometers northwest of Ramallah, against the construction and expansion of settlements on village lands.

Two weeks ago, a protester was killed after being hit in the face by a tear gas canister fired by Israeli troops during such a protest. According to Israeli rights group B'tselem, 20 Palestinians were killed at similar West Bank demonstrations over the past eight years.

The demonstrator from this Friday's protest was taken to Ramallah for medical treatment, an AFP correspondent said.

The military spokesman noted that a border policeman was lightly wounded in the face by stones Palestinians threw. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The US is vehement talking against the Syrian and Egyptian governments' ways and methods of dealing with the unrest in their countries, but the US is completely blind and suffers amensia to what is going on in Palestine, the Zionists are building on occupied land and when the owners of the land protest the Zionist army shoots at them. This word ARABs is only the invention of the Ottomans and the British, there are no Arabs but Palestinians, Syians, Lebanese etc. If we speak to an Arab a thousand years ago and speak to another in 2012, we are talking to the same mentality.

Kamalsin, do you mean this month, all year, last year or all together? In 1948 over ten thousand were slaughtered. That is equal to about 500 000 thousand today. And after that tens of thousands were killed by the zionists. Not to mention the millions of other crimes. So while the bashar regime is criminal and brutal and its demise would be a blessing, it doesnt gice you a right to belittle all the evil israel has done and is doing. Have you forgotten in 2006 and 2009 when the zionazis bombed people in a way never seen before. Hospitals had to deal with children who had bombed genitals. Dont belittle the suffering people have endured whether by the thiefs called israel or by the dictatorship in syria.

Kamalsin2000 23 million syrians live in syria vs 5 million palestinians in syria so its a wrong assumption your making. Both the zionist entity as well as the syrian army/government are criminals, but the situations are two diffirent ones.

First count the number of those Lebanese, Palestinians, Syrians killed by Assad Sr and Jr and then use a calculator to count those killed by Israel.

I will join my voice to that of patriots everywhere like demon, hanna, johnkoura and the rest of our fellow travelers when I say Palestine above all to hell with Lebanon, we destroyed it once and we'll do it again as many times as we have to in the name of FIDAKI YA FILASTEEN!!!!!.

In my comments yesterday under John (Hanna) Marina I forgot to give two quotations from two countries describing the Arabs. The Turks used to call them "Pis Arabar", meaning Dirty Arabs whereas the Jews still call them "Aravim Khamourim Gadolim" meaning the Arabs are big donkeys.

I have written a book entitled "Illustrated History of Crusader Acre", another article in 20 computer pages entitled "Who Are the Arabs"?. For those who are interested.

I was born in Akka Palestine from a Lebanese family, lived in Lebanon after 1948 but been Canadian since.
