A Swiss national died and 30 people were injured, two of them seriously, in a highway pile-up Sunday after heavy snow in central Slovenia, police said.

The accident occurred Sunday afternoon when over 50 vehicles, including three lorries and a bus, crashed amid poor visibility and strong winds on the A1 Ljubljana-Koper highway, some 40 kilometers (24 miles) south of the Slovenian capital.

"A 25-year-old Swiss citizen died," Koper police spokeswoman Anita Leskovec told Agence France-Presse without giving his name.

Due to the accident, the A1 highway connecting Ljubljana with the coast remained closed over eight hours.
