Jumblat: Lebanon Cannot Escape Funding STL

Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat stated on Saturday that Lebanon has made a pledge to implement international resolutions and it cannot avoid these obligations.

He said: “Lebanon therefore cannot escape funding the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.”

He added that he believes that Hizbullah had presented evidence in its possession in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri to the Lebanese judiciary that in turn handed them over to the STL.

“This indicates that the STL exists and the evidence exists as well and therefore it would be helpful to continue the funding,” noted the MP.

Addressing the electricity file, Jumblat said: “The dispute over this matter is technical.”

He revealed that a technical and financial solution has been reached and it will be presented with Hizbullah MPs.

“The dispute is not political and the ministers need to resolve this issue during Wednesday’s cabinet session,” he stressed.
