Charbel: TIME Magazine Article Targets Hizbullah
Interior Minister Marwan Charbel stated on Monday that the TIME Magazine interview with one of the suspects in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri targets Hizbullah.
He said before a delegation from the editors syndicate: “Targeting Hizbullah will have consequences and spark debates that do not fall in Lebanon’s interests because whoever wants to create unrest in Lebanon does so through creating sectarian tensions.”
“We should be wary and prevent those seeking to destabilize the country from reaching their goals,” he added.
“The press and media play a major role in this regard as you are the first authority that can set matters straight and contribute to Lebanon’s security and safety,” the minister stressed.
Furthermore, Charbel said that the ties between Lebanon and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon take place through the General Prosecution “and we have never hesitated in cooperating with Prosecutor General Saeed Mirza in this matter.”
He added that he had requested that Mirza look into the TIME Magazine article.
The magazine recently published an interview with one of the four suspects in the Hariri assassination.
The suspect, who remained unidentified, is one of four Hizbullah members accused of being involved in the crime.
On the Antelias blast that took place a few weeks ago, Charbel stated: “The blast was a result of a personal dispute between the two victims and this has been confirmed by the investigations.
“The facts in the incident proved my statements and I was not defending Hizbullah,” he stressed.
“Had it been involved, I would have announced it,” the interior minister remarked.
Two people were killed in the Antelias blast when an explosive device in their possession took off.
Media reports said that the brother of one of the victims is a member of Hizbullah.
Military Tribunal Judge Saqr Saqr later described the incident as a terrorist operation, which Charbel said he agrees with from a judicial perspective.
The minister added however that 90 percent of the citizens don’t view the Antelias blast from a legal angle.
Pathetic.....we expected better from you. We had a great interior minister and we let him go....So now he does his work in tunisia...
Typical Lebanese, our best leave...
They can do only one thing to get their record clean: buy the first ticket to La Hague and explain themselves to the STL. Otherwise they're self indicting themselves, which sooner or mater the STL will confirm! No Mr Charbel Time is not targeting the Hezb. In the same way the Der Spiegel was not targeting them in 2008 ! Just professional journalists making a living !and on top, the assertions of the Der Spiegel proved to be true. I'm afraid that one too might be true, that Hassounah is protecting them in the many no go sanctuaries he has established..Just another unnecessary proof that when someone feels , as Oneissi would , and his protective boss too (and the boss of his boss in Iran too ) that he's untouchable and almighty he acts silly and speaks a truth that fires back on him.........and embarasses his allies
Please tell The Minister to get real. He either does his job properly or he leaves. Obviously Charbel is protecting his own pockets. So please just leave you are an absolute disgrace and a crook in disguise! Charbel needs to be tried if necessary.
Yes it is all part of a larger conspiracy to frame our hero mobster and the terrorist par excellence Sayedd Hassan of Hizbollah . Imagine that , they even got Time magazine in on it .
Our dear Minister is a specialist of internalizing and "coating" things so that their aspect looks good. This is a nice thing to do, but not to honestly tell the truth!!!!!
And when you thought that he couldn't get worse, he finds a way to do so.
If anything TIME magazine article targets the STL credibility, it is definitely a move by Hezbollah in its campaign against the STL.
I said it and I repeat it invert whatever Nasrallah says and you will get the truth, here is an example:
Hezbollah is targeted by the STL (false)
The STL is targeted by Hezbollah (true)
Nasrala's minister has spoken and he believes the bombing is the result of a mislplaced fire cracker.
Go figure! terrorism stares our interior minister in the face, yet he continues to cover for it. In all honesty, I dont feel safe in Lebanon, if this terrorist govenment does not get you, the police will.
@hanna...Baroud would never have left if people (Ashraf Rifi and March 14) were not constantly disobeying his orders. March 14 has shown that it only cares about power! ONE WAY TICKET!
Minister please do your job and do not speculate and coment on newspaper articles.
Just find the culprits and bring them to justice..this is your job!
so just do it and stop talking rubbish
The only negative feedback realetd Mr Charbel can be found on this blog!!!
The guys has a good reputation what's the problem now LSM!!!
