The Lebanese Army and Internal Security Forces prevented anti-Assad demonstrators on Sunday from reaching the border with Syria during a protest at the Masnaa border crossing in the Bekaa valley.

An Nahar daily said Monday that the demonstration was called for by Hizb ut-Tahrir in support of the Syrian people protesting the Assad regime’s crackdown.

The Army and ISF constrained the demonstrators on the road leading to the checkpoint at the Rashaya crossing, it said.

Anti-Assad speeches were made during the protest.

As for demonstrators, who were prevented at security roadblocks at the Deir Zanoun and Dahr al-Baidar crossings from heading to their destination, they held sit-ins chanting slogans in support of the Syrian people and calling for the toppling of the regime.
