Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat stressed that he will not back any side that is seeking a confrontation on the internal and external scenes and aiming to create strife in Lebanon, his sources told Ad-Diyar daily on Sunday.
“Jumblat chose to support the majority out his interest to protect Lebanon from any problems,” they added.
“The government will fail if it is unable to control the situation and protect the country’s stability,” they continued.
In addition, they revealed that Jumblat supports adopting the same terms on the Special Tribunal for Lebanon that were used in the previous government’s policy statement for the new cabinet’s statement.
A dispute has erupted regarding the phrasing of the policy statement regarding the clause on the tribunal.
The MP’s sources asked: “Now that the majority is in control of the government, why should it have fears over the tribunal?”
