Prime Minister-designate Najib Miqati held a meeting Wednesday evening with caretaker Energy and Water Minister Jebran Bassil, Speaker Nabih Berri’s political aide MP Ali Hassan Khalil and Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s Political Assistant Hussein Khalil, LBC television reported.
Earlier Wednesday, a meeting was held at the parliament between Miqati, Speaker Berri, Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblat, Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun and Marada Movement leader MP Suleiman Franjieh.
MPs Mohammed Raad, Talal Arslan and Asaad Hardan joined the closed-door meeting later on.
The surprise meeting was held on the sidelines of a controversial parliamentary plenary session adjourned by Berri to June 15 over lack of quorum.
The day also witnessed a bilateral meeting between Miqati and Aoun, who stressed during their talks that the domestic obstacles hindering the cabinet formation process have been overcome, OTV reported.
The TV network added that a proposal put forward by Aoun still needs to be approved by Miqati and Suleiman.
For its part, MTV reported that Miqati’s meeting with Aoun was followed by a meeting between the PM-designate, Bassil and Franjieh, describing it as an “ice-breaker meeting.”
