Jordanian "Dakwak" has been selected as one of the semi-finalist teams for this year's MIT Enterprise Forum Arab Start-Up Competition for the Startups Track
Idea Inspiration
The idea of of Dakwak came during a conference in Egypt discussing online Arabic content and ways to improve it. The team behind Dakwak came together through referrals from friends and co-workers and has been working since the start of 2011. With previous experience in website translation and development, a long discussion on Arabic online content lead to the idea of creating a tool that will allow online content managers and publishers to easily translate their material from foreign languages into Arabic allowing Arabic and other languages to grow and spread.
The Product
Dakwak is a website translation technology that enables websites to launch translated versions of the sites that are fully functional without having them technically involved in the process, and in a very brief period of time.
Dakwak doesn't only provide machine translation, a service already available online. But the project's competitive advantage lies in the team management section that allows publishers to manipulate through translation resources and providing professional translation through a team of practicing translators. What makes Dakwak different is that it claims to solve all the hustles of translating a website. Normally, the process does not end when the website translation is done, as there are always updates, changes and new updates to add. Through a traditional website translation process a lot of resources and time is spent, but Dakwak supports services that get you through more efficiently.
The Dakwak team believes that their project is vital for small and medium businesses as it provides them with the necessary tool to expand to regional and global markets as well as expanding their online presence. Growth in the SME markets opens doors for international trade which furthers develops the economy and creates more jobs. For Dakwak, this is the main reason for joining the MIT Enterprise Forum Arab Startup Competition.
