Miqati Says Attempts to Destabilize Lebanon Will Affect All Nation

Prime Minister Najib Miqati warned on Thursday of interfering in the developments surrounding Lebanon as it will undermine stability, which will have a negative repercussion on all the nation.

“We should put the nation's highest interest above all else,” Miqati said.

He pointed out that his cabinet has been seeking to “maintain stability in the country and disassociating Lebanon from the turmoil in the neighboring countries for instability in the country will not distinguish between anyone.”

The international community and analysts have continuously expressed fears that the conflict in Syria may spill over into the Lebanon.

The premier noted that the Lebanese economy is a priority, saying: “Without a strong economy we will not have a strong state... And there's no promising economy if there isn't a rightful state” that gives its citizens a permanent development.

“We have no option but to rise above the local, regional and international difficulties and use our human powers and information and communications technology as main tools for development and activating social and economy advancement,” Miqati added.

Lebanon plunged into a political crisis on October 19 when Internal Security Forces Intelligence Branch chief Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan was assassinated.

The March 14-led opposition boycotted political activity with its foes after it blamed Miqati's government for covering up the crime and said it would not sit at the same dialogue table with Hizbullah.
